Title: scouting last week , elk herded up in my area already.
Post by: MIKEXRAY on July 25, 2009, 10:20:48 AM
Last year I never saw a bull at all with cows even through the early archery season and bugling was at a low. Last weekend hiked up to my honey hole @ first light, found 40 elk in the meadow and was surprised when the bulls came out of the wood & others bugled from the woods, herded the cows together & off they went towards bedding. It is weird to me that one year no herding and this year all herded up in July ????  Nice to see all the resident elk back this year, Actually more than I thought lived in the whole area. The bulls were actually bugling to get them together & bugled all the way up the mountain to keep them close. Must be perceived early competition between the bulls ?  One side note: each cow had a calf, no twins just one each. Looked healthy. Mike
