Been at the range the last two evenings, sighting in and testing a Remington .22-cal rimfire semi-auto. A very accurate rifle.
Has me in the mood to check zero on my Ruger 10-22 with the Bushnell scope for HEAD SHOOTING GROUSE!
Twenty-five days and counting down to TUESDAY, September 1.... when I will once again strap on my sixgun, load up my shotgun, head for the high country and bring LAW AND ORDER to the wild animals!
Can anybody imagine the uproar if I did something like that on YouTube? I am supposed to be respectable. :chuckle:
I have been taking the day off on Sept. 1 for years. I will not break the streak this year. First day grouse always seem to taste better, eh?
I imagine the same thing applies to dove hunters down in the lower Yakima Valley and out at the Potholes.
Get hold of the latest edition of NORTHWEST SPORTSMAN magazine and start the ball!

The countdown....

I feel ya Dave.
We are headed next door to Idaho on the 2ndes and kids get there, to do nothing but grouse hunt. I'm hoping to get some of this rain they keep speeking of.
Because of the high cost of Idaho (to me) I have not hunted grouse for three years.
-
I hope we get some rain so the woods will be open come 1 Sep!

Jeez Louise!
After Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, I sure hope to hell that you don't start hoping for an earthquake.
HEY! Somebody gag this guy until, say, November???

Recon!
We need RECON!!!
Grouse spotting reports. I'm heading into the high country on Saturday to check some spots for thunderchickens.

put 70 miles of dirt road on today didnt see a one..usually see some between sets
-
I saw a hen blue grouse that had three less than half grown chicks with her northeast of Morton today. I wonder if they are from a second hatch. Otherwise it seems like they should be bigger than that with only a couple weeks to go to the opener.
-
Seen three ruffs and 1 blue this past weekend, maybe the pup will get some hunting time this sept after all

Whatsamadda you??!!!
WHERE....WHERE....WHERE.
It's like the guy told us in school about marketing.

Sorry to be disagreeable, but there are hunting vids all over Youtube.
But I'm really excited too. Never did get that shotty, so it looks like my trusty 10-22 is going to have to get me by this year.

Caaaan't wait..... I wonder how busy the woods will be on Labor Day weekend?!?
I'll be heading to Eastern WA to hook up with my bro. and his GSP. Talked to him today, I told him that he better be getting that dog into shape. He said that he had just ran him four miles and that he could run up to forty MPH.
Cool!
-
I will not be out on the opener, but that weekend my whole family will be out trying to get my daughter her first bird. I will be ready to photo document the moment. I cant wait!!!

Didn't take the day off.. Too much going on. But I did throw the shottie in the truck for an evening walk looking for thunder chickens.

My son has packed and repacked his hunting bag.... he will change the choke tube today in his shotty and then.....he has school starting tomorrow :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:.... and no I am not letting him miss the first day of school  he may have to miss a day for early goose.....but he gets to go chase grouse after school with his dad and I might even go just to hang out with them.....I don't have a good grouse gun, but I am still looking for a bear.

OK This sucks :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: I can't take the 1st off again this year(2nd year in a row) however I think I might have a slight case of Tetanus and have to go to the Dr. this morning :bash: :bash: then back to work tomorrow :bash:
I'm so mad :yike: How come the State dosen't just make the Opener on the Weekend closest to the 1st??? That way all us working stiffs can go out and blast Doves on the opener!!!!
Everybody knows that the first 2 days of dove hunting is the only days to get them !!!!!!!

I hit the woods near Cle Elum today, hardly anyone else out there. It was a wonderful day for a lonely hike with a gun. I was skunked but that's the shooter's problem. Plenty of grouse made themselves available for dinner. I don't have a dog so just kicking the bushes myself. Maybe I need a shorter, smaller gauge gun for heavy timber; that's what I'll tell the wife anyway. :)
Next up later this week; cast and blast in Okanogan. Let's hope for better results.

i'll probably go poke around in the woods on saturday to see if this blind squirrel can find a nut.
