Title: Cougar Pursuit ???
Post by: bearpaw on August 07, 2009, 09:07:58 PM
Aug 7 at Wildlife Commission Meeting

RE: Hound Hunting
Ferry county commissioner Bob Heath testified for an equal number of pursuit-only cougar permits as kill permits. I also testified in support of pursuit-only hunting in order to maintain trained hounds in this state. We heard no opposition to this request, I know we will have support from some county commissioners and some legislators. Hound hunters need to write courteous letters to the right people, I think this is a possibility next year with the right coalition of support, and public support via letter writing. Message me for a list of the right people to write to.

It was suggested by the county commissioner to have equal number of pursuit permits as kill permits in all areas with kill permits. If you are a dogger, you probably know which areas are open, if not, you can look at the cougar info on the WDFW website. I am pretty sure it includes Chelan, Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, and Klickitat counties.

I would think it will be much easier to get a pursuit season in the current public safety areas. Then if no problems occur, try asking for a statewide pursuit. I doubt a statewide request would be considered right now with any degree of seriousness.
