so i'll be up in tonasket next week, haven't spent much time up there since i was a kid and that was mostly all fishin at whitestone and spectacle etc... was wonderin what the bear huntin is like up around there? i know the twisp/winthrop area well but just never hunted that far north before. if anyone could help point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

You can find bears but imo it's too hot to be hunting around here. In order to get one here you will have to be many miles from the truck making it damn tough to save the meat :twocents:
-
Why would u have to be many miles from the truck :dunno: the whole corner use to be open in Aug for a few years, we could spot bears from the truck in some spots, dont understand your logic

Growing up we used to always hunt winthrop deer season. I don't think a year went past that someone in our camp didnt have a blackie hanging with our deer. There's so many people that are up there these days though, too many greenies during archery seasons and way tooo many road hunters during rifle season.

FYI...GMU 204 doesn't open until Sept. 1st for bear..last year it opened Aug. 1

Old homesteads, fruit trees are scattered around, berry patch info.........well, ask the Wauconda ladies :chuckle:

No bears up here, only on the westside, save your gas, hunt capital forest, all the road are closed, your vehicle will breakdown if you come over here, only carved bears for looks, wacounda cafe is closed, no place to eat..

:party1: :yeah:

Also, don't forget about private-ownership and getting permission. A few years ago we thought we were in a good public spot, but got run off more than one place. Is there public land around Tonasket?
EH

All kinds of public land, just get a gazzetteer, tells you all you need to know about ownership, roads, etc. We've probably seen 14-16 bears in all our trips over there, plenty around.

Back when you could run dogs Tunk Mtn used to be a fun spot for a little excitement

I've caught a few on my game camera's in the ONF. But like someone said earlier it's to hot during the day.. I know bears are pretty nocturnal but all the activity I saw was at night. This was in Sept. and early Oct.

Here's the largest one I got on camera.. I've got a picture of me standing next to the same branch you see in the photo below the bears back and it's above my waist.. Large bear.
-
Here's one of it coming towards the camera.. Wide shoulders!
-
Actually here is the one I was wanting to put up.. The last one was of another bear.

hey guys... got back lastnight. i was up doin some work on a friends cabin that they're remodeling, which lent me time (mainly in the evenings) to do some huntin' or scoutin or whatever you wanna call it... anyhow i got out in the woods! didn't see any bear, saw a TON of deer, lots of heathly does/fawns and 8 or 9 bucks, nothin huge, a few with potential though... thanks for all the input, i need to spend a lot more time up there in a few weeks when things cool off.
