Trying to find somewhere relatively close to home to hunt in case the east side doesn't work out and it's accessible for one day trips. I understand the unit starts at the PCT trail and goes east, but how far east does it go? Trying to find road's in the 7000 series that the pamphlet talks about is impossible on Google maps.
Thank you.

Don't you mean to say it goes WEST from the Pacific Crest Trail ???
-
Ya east would be the Taneum unit 336 I believe.
-
I'm not very familiar with the unit but from looking at the latest harvest report I'd say it doesn't look promising. In 2007 the report only shows 24 bucks being killed in that unit. That's out of 226 hunters for a success rate of just over 10%. I think I'd be looking for another option.

Here is a buck form up there. Get off the roads and you can do pretty well.
-
Theres deer everywhere you just have to know where to look, low success rates doesnt mean no animals; in most cases it means the animals arent right off the roads
-
Well of course there's deer in there. I was simply suggesting that he might want to look at other units that may have higher success rates. Higher success rates do generally mean there are more deer.

Okay...think I figured it out. You enter through Stampede pass and just have to cross to the west side of the PCT trail until you can hunt. I finally found Blowout Mountain as a marker for reference. I'm willing to get out and hike no problem with that, just looking for a place to go.

I know you can get up into that unit by going hwy 410 up through Greenwater and taking one of the forest roads on the left will dump you into the unit.I dont know exactly which one.

I think FS 70 to the 7030, hang a right at Twin Camp and go up towards Pyramid Peak. This is off the top of my head, so verify on a map before trying that...
