Title: Powerbelt Aero Tip

Post by: turkey slayer on August 28, 2009, 08:32:12 AM: I am not happy with them, the have way to much drop at 200 yards but the were 2 inches high at 100, even with uping my powder, so I went back to the TC shock waves 250 with a 120 grains powder.

I was shooting 100 grains of pyrodex pellets and only 245 grain bullet. What do you guys think of the grain of bullet for elk? The 245 grain comes out at a better velocity than the heavier bullets. I'm thinking of not shooting any further than 75 yards at an elk if i could get that close to a damn spike. Is 245 an adequate grain bullet to make a good dent in a elk? Or should i up the grain of bullet.

I have used the regular 295 powerbelt for many years(they used to be called Blackbelts). Have Killed three elk with them. A 5x5 at 40 yards, a 4x4 at 80 yards and a cor at 252 yards.

I think if you keep it within 100 yards you should be fine. Ive killed two elk with the regular 295 gr powerbelts with 100 grs pyrodex pellets. Both elk died very quickly. I dont think either one of them went more than 20 or 30 yards after i shot them. I found the bullet under the hide on the opposite side both times.

Post by: edmondshunter on September 15, 2009, 07:34:37 PM: My buddy killed an elk last year with 219gr buffalo brand all lead sabot @ 165yrds with 100gr pyrodex. No prob. It was a perfect shot and did more than enough vital damage to drop it in its tracks.

You should have no troubles with the Aero's out to 100-150. Practice makes perfect as they say so hit the range first.

Post by: TopOfTheFoodChain on September 16, 2009, 10:03:54 PM: Did some shooting with the 295 aero tips last weekend. They were about 6 incher higher at 100yds that my old regular powerbelts. Overall I'm happy, they shoot well in my gun.
