Title: Bear Outfitter or Guide????
Post by: Numbers on August 18, 2009, 10:15:23 AM
Hi Guys,
I just recently found this forum and thought I would ask.  Does anyone know of a good bear guide in Washington that you could recommend?  I have always wanted to hunt bear in Washington but have not had time or resources but have been saving.  I would like to plan a hunt for Fall of 2010.  By the way, I would be a first time bear hunter.

I have enjoyed the forum.  It has been information.  Any info that you can give me would be greatly appreciated! :)

you've got at least 3 good guide/outfitter choices that are sponsors of this site.
bearpaw outfitters--bearpaw on here
rugged class outfitters-norsepeak on here
tonymoe on here, i can't remember the name of his outfit but he hunts the goat rocks area.

Welcome to the site.

Another idea would be to look into hunting on the Quinault indian reservation.  The nice thing about using the indian guide is that they can put you over bait.  Baiting is otherwise illegal out here.

Yep, and they grow some awful big bears out there as well.

Above is a link.  I have not used them..........I've only seen hunting shows with them and Ted Nugent.  Personally, I think it would be more fun to go on a trip with Bearpaw or the other guides mentioned, but you may be able to get a bigger bear and probably a guaranteed bear on the reservation............just depends on what you want out of the trip, I guess.

I would pass on the quinault thing. I know a guy from work that just payed a guide from the quinault for a guided bear hunt that turned out to be bullsh--t. The guide said he had a large bear coming into a site for him but when he got there the guide said he had a friend come in so he put him in the stand instead. He only went with the guy one time and made him drive himself the rest of the time. The guide promised to skin and bone out the bear. When he shot the small bear the guide said he did not know how to bone the meat out. I skinned the head, tail and all four paws for him. The guide did a horrible job of skinning the bear. If I was a guide in Washington I would be pissed off that these guys are aloud to call themselves guides.

Well, all I can say is Sherman Creek Outfitter!

I have hunted with Joe & Jodi for the last four years (Turkey, Bear, and Deer & Elk) I just got back from my Bear trip.  In camp we went two out of five hunters.  All I can say is I had a hunt of a lifetime (true heaven as I call it) even though I did not tagged.
Sherman Creek Outfitter are sit sponsors, you can scroll down and click on their link on the bottom left page.  They are professional and passionate for the outdoors, great hosts, first class all the way, oh did I mentioned reasonable!  You can email me and I give you my phone number and I can talk all day about their operation.

Phil is good people and I would recomend him for the Quinault hunt. Fairly new at the bear guide thing 3yrs I think, But he tries hard and treats you right! Has clean bait sights and cares about his hunters. I hunted with him when I went out there and he was assisting my guide on our hunt. He's definately a guy you can have a good conversation with.
