Why are you sending back your Rocky boots?
-
My suggestion is to try and find some locally to try on first. It's tough buying a pair of boots without putting them on your feet.
Danner is not my first choice for when I'm going to be walking a long ways but they'll probably be fine if you're walking shorter distances.
-
my rockys are defective.
After calling sportsman's guide they said they have been having problems with them.
the sole is comming apart from the bottom of the shoe.
:bash: :'(

Your first problem is "Rocky" Junk products, IMO.

yeah i am realizing this now...
-
Buy a pair of the Kenetrek mountain boots, you will love them if they fit.
-
:yike: $355$ WOW!
-
Or you could go with the Scarpa Liskaams, I sent them back. They were too narrow and dont make wide. Your feet can be your lifeline in the backcountry so keep them happy. I think you do a lot of road hunting so crocks should be a better bet for you. JK! :chuckle:
-
DUDE!!! LOL :yike:
:chuckle:
youre killing me.......
i do it all buddy and you know it.....
beat the brush, road hunt, tree stand, boat, I HUNT EVERYWHERE!!!

-
How did you decide on those?
-
my brother has them and loves them...
and they are the only danners that i am able to exchange the crap rocky ones with. (price is about the same)
-
They look real cool too huh? I bet you they make you hike farther and see more critters! ;)
-
I have nice boots but they are heavy after I wade through rivers.
They look less gay than those danners too :dunno:
-
I bought a pair of Meindel's from Cabelas last year. They are so nice, I went to the Lacey store and tried on several pairs and hands down they were the most comfortable boot for me. What you really need to do is block out about 5-6 hours that you can go down and try on everything in the store that has the features you want. Then you will find the boot that works for your foot not your brothers!! Deer season is right around the corner so you better hurry.

Here's my thoughts on boots. In the last ten years, I believe that I have purchased no less than 3, and perhaps 4 pair of boots, Danner, Cabela's, Meindl, etc.. At an average price of $180, that equals $540 - $720. That's a lot of money that I could be spending on something else. So here's what I decided to do. I purchased a pair of boots from Russell Moccasin, they should be here Monday morning, and I can't wait to use them. These boots cost me $440, but with proper care, I expect them to last 7 - 10 years.
Here's a link http://www.russellmoccasin.com/boots_mountainhunting/mt_highcountry.html
-
I have the Meindl's from Cabelas. Super comfortable and I can carry a large pack with them a long ways without any discomfort. I'm thinking about getting a new pair of Lowas for a lighter duty, early season boot (just got a couple of REI gift certificates for my b-day). I've worn a couple of pairs of Lowas and they are pretty comfortable, as well.
Most "hunting boots" are not that great, in my opinion. Go find a good pair of hiking boots that fit you well. If the lack of camo on your feet is giving you away, you're too close and probably should have shot already.:)
-
most of the hiking boots out there are meant for trail use, if you hunt really steep stuff you gotta have a taller boot for ankle support and a pronounced heel to dig in so you dont slip
-
Meindel's were my choice after many pairs of danner boots. I love the Meindel's. Very comfortable with great support. Pricey but oh well since a good boot makes the world of difference.
-
I think 400 grams of thinsulate is a little much. I think ur doing archery elk this year and you wont want to be wearing those.
-
My suggestion is to try and find some locally to try on first. It's tough buying a pair of boots without putting them on your feet.
Easy to overlook this timeless advice when you finally become confident of your boot size (mine is 9.5). However, I thought these Danner Vanish boots would be awesome, but the thingies that the bootlace wraps around on the upper part of the boot dug into my calves as I walked. Tried several pairs and always got that result. Good thing I learned that in the store and not after getting a 'deal' on eBay or something.
They look less gay than those danners too :dunno:
Fashion is really important, too. Afterall, most men hiking in the wilderness with blood-smeared clothing and a gun leave doubts about their sexuality. :chuckle:

Image is everything now these days, dont you know that! :chuckle: If you look good and pose good you will hunt good!

thanks for the advice guys
and im only archery hunting deer this year just fyi

Insulated boots are too warm for September in my opinion. I have grown rather fond of my Lowa Tibets. They are a bit pricey but given that they are going on their 4th season and have had no issues I think you will get your money worth. I would be worried that those Danners will also come apart at the seam.
-
not going to make any decisions yet but i am send back those CRAP rockys

:yeah:
When your boot hunting don't look at the price tag. Find what's best for you and find a way to pay for them. I have spent a ton of time trying to find a boot that fits me and if your really going to get something you love your going to have to pay for it. That's just my :twocents:
-
Its about impossible to recommend a boot to someone. Everyones feet are different and what might be a killer boot for me is garbage to you.
Everyone I know raves about Danners. I went to buy a pair and found out they didn't fit my feet worth a damn. The most uncomfortable boot I've ever had on my feet.
I'd never order a pair of boots online unless I'd tried them locally first.

Are you sure you will be able to feel the gas pedal and brake with those? :dunno:

So did you try them on and make sure they fit? I would never buy boots without trying them on...all the features in the world are no good if they don't support your feet and fit well. These are hiking boots not stiletto's man ;)

Wait a minute, don't you have the multi season tag? What is the muzzleloader for that you just "picked up"? Man I thought you were stoked for the MST? Or do you change your mind every 10 seconds?
-

Red wing (Elk Hunter )and White boot's are my first and second choice I do have a different pair of boots for every week of the year my wife told me I have a boot and coat problem. I don't think there is a problem with having three pairs of the same boot I just don't understand what she is talking about.

I sure love my ASOLOS.

I sure love my ASOLOS.
Did you buy them based on looks, how they worked for someone else or because you could feel the gas pedal as well as the brake? :chuckle: :dunno: :chuckle:
-
ok that one is getting old
:P
-
I used danner for years with no problems.Although my hunting boots are not used year round either.I also never pump gas with them on.Had a pair of Rocky's that the soles got eaten away after wearing them in the gas station a few times. I wear danner pinnacles.A unisulated pair in the early season and a 1000 gram for the late.
-
The Kenetreks are great boots and will last a lot longer than the danners. I can get you a better deal than $355. Let me know if you're interested. Thx lint5564@yahoo.com
-
i ended up with these and love them. already put a ton of miles on them.

I love my Kenetrek Mountain boots, took a little break in time but are in a league of their own, far better than any Danner that I have owned and worth the price. :twocents:
-
I've been using Danners the last several years. At some point I punched a leak in the goretex booty, so I've been shopping for new boots. My $0.02 is that the right boot really depends on your primary use. If you're going to use a heavy pack, or do miles on very steep or rocky terrain, a stiffer boot is better (e.g. Lowa, Meindl, Kenetrek). But if you mainly do day hunts in the 5-10 mile range (or less), a more flexible boot (e.g. Danner) will allow you to walk more quietly through the woods. I spent last week hunting with a guy wearing Meindl's (I think the Perfekt). He was happy with the comfort and waterproofness (is that a word?), but he was really loud trying close the gap on bugling bulls. We were in heavy cover so it's inevitable that you're going to step on twigs. The question is whether you can feel the twig under your boot and flex off of it, or whether you just snap it in two. I suppose you could stare at your feet all day and better choose your steps, but that's not a good option. All in all, I'm now thinking I need two pairs - one for normal hunting conditions (and archery hunting), and one stiffer pair for longer treks, steeper terrain (ankle support), or when noise isn't such a factor (rifle hunting, open terrain, etc.).
-
That's about right, WAcoushunter. I like Lowa's for the more flexible pair. I also bought a pair of the Cabela's uninsulated Silent Stalk boots, which I'm normally AGAINST doing (I like my nice boots) and put a pair of Superfeet in them. They're actually pretty comfortable, although I keep them for shorter hunts (before or after work or when I'm not walking too far, which is pretty rare). I use my Meindls for everything else, though. If you're careful, you can get through the woods alright.
-
wow .....those Kenetrek Mountain boots weigh well over a pound more then my danners, that is alot. You might as well strap 2 4hp evenrude trolling motor to your feet.........I can't hike all day in the late hunt ,with a heavy boot like that. Not to mention nearly $400 price tag
