I read of mention of sheds starting to fall in another post. Well, saturday 12/8 I found my first fresh one this season. Its the earliest I can remember finding. It was under a hemlock next to a fairly fresh bed and had a little streak of dried blood on the base and fresh green bark embedded in the burs. I also found two somewhat fresh cougar killed carcasses within 800 yards or so of the shed. One spike and one 3x3. Both had the antlers still firmly attached.
To answer some questions that I predict (I got a few on another board):
elevation was about 2500 foot
Washougal unit, in Skamania county
There was patchy snow from the last storm but most was gone

Am I psychic or what...ok maybe psycho. CONGRATS on the first shed of the year for the board. May many more land in your pile.

I saw 3 Bucks last week while hunting (Chelan Co.)with one horn!!! I passed on one.

I ahd a feeling its going to be an early year with the rut starting so fast. I figure Weatherby permit holder is going to shoot a big buck only to have his antlers fall off in his hand. :)
There goes the next wave of folks to hit the Swakane.

Congrats on finding the first shed for the board this season!

I wasnt looking for sheds at the time. I usualy wouldnt start that till after duck season. I was trying to help my brother find an elk and I stumbled upon the antler.

Settle down Miles, its a bit early yet. You'll just push tem over to my areas. :)

Muleys early, whitetails normal, moose spot on, elk undecided. Its one hell of an addiction. I haven't got my gas tank filled up yet from November. I need to work on that for this spring before someone takes off across the big lake. WE'RE on it.

Why don't you just wait until the dead of summer like I do? Oh, thats right, you are hunting in areas where you fight over antlers!!! Heh heh' heh'... No one ever looks where I find em'! 85 degrees sounds better than 25 degrees! :IBCOOL:

a old guy i know told me bout a place where the elk migrate down in the winter. its bout 6 miles back, but he said elk sheds were everywhere its just a long ways to pack them back out. so i may go up there in the summer catch a few steelies and get some sheds

I'll take a day thats 10 below as long as I think I might find an antler!

I've been trying to imagine a way into my spot on foot before it opens to motorized vehicles...
got any horses? that'd be along walk i think, and probably a heavy pack on the way out.
