Evenin',
Went out for the first time this year today and tried my luck in a "new" area. New because I've never hunted the area but have lived here my whole life. I saw about 70-90 head of elk, one real nice 4X4 in a guys front yard eating his shrubs. That was all in town, literally. Saw where the Lewis Co Sheriffs Deputy hit the elk, then the building and the pole. He was at least able to hit the brakes but it wasn't enough to slow him down before the cinder block building. Found out that they did an autopsy on him and he had cancer all over the place on the inside of his body. I'm thinking that He, yes Him, had a hand in it...if he'd been killed by cancer and not an elk, his family would have suffered financially after having to see him die a painful death. No disrespect to Deputy G. or anyone who may know him, but I'd rather take an elk to the chest than die of cancer and have to see my wife and kids watch me die.
Once I got into the Gifford Pinchot, there was nothing. I got up as high as I could, right next to Rainier it seemed, and glassed for a couple hours real early in the morning. The only thing with four legs and fir that I saw was a chipmunk....couldn't make out any horns on him though...little bugger. After glassing I drove for a couple hours, hitting the roads that didn't look like they'd been traveled a whole lot. Even got out and hiked up the Tatoosh (sp) a bit. There was absolutely no bear sign....at all....nothing. Huckleberry's are on up high though.
Has anyone else hunted the Tatoosh Trail area? Seen sign? Maybe I was holding my mouth wrong...

Navyhunter,
Those are some pretty heavy words to say about someone that has been serving his community as a law enforcement officer. Unless you have some concrete evidence I would refrain from making such comments.

Wow how things can be interpreted so differently.... :dunno:
I took it that he meant HIM as in GOD the big guy in the sky had a hand in the accident..... not that the officer did.....that karma intervened and rather than a slow death to a nasty disease he was taken quickly and heroically ....
but then I tend to look for the good in people ;)
-
That is how I read it also run. :dunno:
-
I also think he meant it that way. Not only did the guy and his family not have to suffer his death by cancer (assuming the cancer was as serious as stated) but he died on the job so hopefully there is some life insurance to help the family out. I am angry at the "domestic disturbance" that he was responding to. I am also wondering if there is more that can be done about all those elk in the town and keeping them off the road. I know some areas are just going to have animals in them though.
As for the bears, the harvest report for 2007 says that 29 bears were taken out of Packwood while only 11 were taken the year before.
-
I think he was hunting South Rainier unit, not Packwood. What does it say for number of bears killed in South Rainier?
-
Not many bears taken from that unit. 2006=5 2007=6
-
Ouch, those aren't good numbers, Kain. Heading up north around Skagit Valley at the end of Sept, that's where I've taken 3 of my 4 bears, might as well hit the honey hole again and clean out the gene pool.
For clarification: The pronouns he, him and his are capitolized where they are referingn to Jesus Christ. Read my screen name and some of my posts. I'm pretty sure I know all about sacrifice, having a servants attitude and sense of duty.
No way would I slam the boys in blue here at home. They're the ones that take care of my family while I'm taking care of the country.
Respectfully,

:)That is how I took it, that you thought God intervened and gave him a death less painful for all.
I saw 4 bear in Packwood area weekend before last, all on the road!

wow cant beleive theres only a few bear being killed in those gmu, but i guess i havnt killed one yet this year either
keep trying, glass and glass and they tend to pop out sooner or later
-
my buddy used to bait up in a couple spots off skate creek and would get a bear every year with his bow, quality one to boot. now its tougher
-
I know of a least that many bears being harvested in south rainer last year .When i use to have hounds we took alot of bears out of that unit.
-
:dunno: Here is the reports. People must not be reporting if you know of more guys taking bears out of there. Or they are saying that they got them in a different unit so everyone will stay away from their honeyholes. :chuckle:

Thanks Kain.

Navy,
I apologize for comment. I went back and read it again and I agree with the others. I had hoped that a military man would not have accused him of what I thought you did.Sorry again.

No harm, no foul. We're good.
