is there a downfall for too much powder?

yeah you blow up your gun and get a trip to the ER.
-
ok i just talked to the original owener and he said no problem he has used 120 on it no problem.
two 60 charges.
so im good to go

Accuracy may suffer with that much powder. But hey, maybe 120 gr will shoot better than 100.....? You won't know until you try. That is why I use loose powder.....you can fine tune the amount of powder and you aren't limitted to 50 or 60 grain increments.

Those pellets weren't made with your sidelock rifle in mind. Ignition is generally better and more consistent with loose powder in traditional style muzzleloaders. Pellets are designed for inlines. Just something to think about, it's your call though. I'd get a powder measure and a can of powder if I were you. What is the twist in that rifle?
