curious to hear how you guys carry your rangefinder while bowhunting. i have one of those gear keeper zinger things and i saw a dude using one of them to hold his rangefinder and thought that it looked like a good idea, so i hooked mine up to try it and it works well but seems to be a little noisey for my liking.
i suppose i should step up and get a new smaller one that is easier to get in and out of my pocket.
i can't seem to figure a place where it isn't swinging and banging against something else.

I use this, and it works great, quiet and protective.
check out the price!? must be a closeout. 66 cents?

I just keep it in my pocket for easy access, out of the case. That way won't swing around, get dirty, bump into things, or get rained on (even though it is waterproof).
-
My binocular harness came with a little D ring with a snap on it that hooks onto my rangefinders cover. I have it clipped into position so that I can just grab it and it slides up the strap right up to my right eye. The rangefinders cover is neoprene so even if it hit my binoculars, it doesn't make any noise. Works great.

Carry mine in my pocket but I have found it difficult to get in and out when I have a deer close. Just too much movement. But at the same time I'd rather scare off a deer than take a bad shot.
-
In my binoculars now. :chuckle: But before I just carried it in the belt holder.
-
I just wear mine on my neck on it's string and put it in my front shirt pocket. I'd like to have one of those bino slider thingymabobs, though.
-
My shirt has a front pocket so I plan to carry it with the lanyard and tuck it in there. The pockets close via velcro so I think I'll just have to leave the pocket open.
20 yards.... buck of a lifetime... *RIIIIP* sound of the velcro :bdid:

Most of the time it's in my front pocket of my shirt. Occasionally I have it in its case attatched to my pack and tied off to a spot on the pack. So I can shoot the range and just let go of the rangefinder.
-
I hook the case of mine on the shoulder strap of my pack, and secure the cord it comes with to the shoulder strap, also, dummy cord style.
-
I just got one of those retractable things too and I don't care for it. Couple of reasons why first is that it is noisy, second it occasionally gets snagged on things and snaps back making even more noise (and in one case it hit my nuts :o). So, I am going to stick with the rope that it came with. :twocents:

My rangefinder case is on the hip belt of my pack. Works fine for me.

loop the lanyard through a belt loop (so I won't set it down and forget it) and drop it into a cargo pocket on my pants or in a side pouch on my pack. I don't range animals, I range shooting lanes at each set up.
-
I use a Nikon Prostaff and it comes with a lanyard that is long enough to go around my neck and one shoulder and it tucks neatly in my armpit. I just slide it around when I need it, and drop it right back into place.
-
i have a primos bowhunter vest i tie the lanyard on the little d ring up by the shoulder then set it in the middle pocket. have done it that way for about three years now works awsome.and most important it is always with me :)

+1
Either in my vest pocket or a pouch attached to my pack belt.

I have a Badlands pack with pockets on the sides of the waist belt. I tie it off to one of the straps so that I don't lose it and just stick it in the pocket of the pack - leaving the pocket unzipped unless the weather is horrible. I used it to shoot a couple of deer that way and you can just kind of slowly drop it and it'll be tied to the pack so you don't have to worry about it.
If I'm not wearing the pack, I made a lanyard out of a piece of parachute cord so that it goes over one shoulder and just under my armpit. I put a key ring (just one of those heavy duty metal circles) on it with the parachute cord through it so that it will just slide up the parachute cord to my eye.

I hook it to my Binocular strap.

This is a great topic. When I'm sittin in the mountains, I am always trying to invent some great gadget to keep my rangefinder close, easy to get to, and quiet. So far nothing is working out very good.
Since I carry by binos with one of those sliding chest strap things...I tie off my rangefinder to the bino strap and let it hang about 8 inches. This gives it just enough room to not swing into my binos, and also enough room to get to my eye, and a chest pocket easily.
I've also tried wrapping the rangefinder in a camo/soft fabric tape so that it doesn't clang into my binos with lots of noise. That neoprene cover thing sounds like a good idea.

Get someone who can sew good and have them make you a pocket on your non shooting side. Just reach across and pull it out and slide it right back in.
With my neck being so messed up, I can't hang a lot of things around my neck.

best thing ever get you a nikon retracter it is a steel wire inside a small like 1" by 2" box that clips to your rangefinder it has tension always on it so it stays tight i put mine on a belt loop all i have to do is reach down and pull it up 2 my eye and then lower it back down its quiet and quick and about 20.00 at wholesale sports and other reatailers never gets in the way or snaged by a bow string but just as fast as having it on your neck
-
i too put my belt through the lanyard and then put it in my leg pocket that way i can range the animal and then drop it if i have to and not lose it. the lanyard is long enough that i can range stuff without bending over or anything works good for me

without a picture I will try to explain.....I have the elastic stretchy bino harness that everyone uses. I also have the nikon retractable lanyard. The lanyard has a fairly big plastic hook right? Put the bino harness on... I take the lanyard and hook it on the bottom right elastic band. It allows my rangefinder to slide very nicely out of the way when I pull up the binos. In my opinion, If it's swinging too much for you, then your walking too fast anyway :P
