Title: Grouse..
Post by: ducks55 on September 09, 2009, 04:38:36 PM
Ok so I have never hunted Grouse but I am getting bored sitting around counting down the days until duck opens... Anyone have a general iade to go around the Wenatchee area? I have no clue where to even start.

Try the Wenatchee National Forest.

If you can find the sept. 6, 2007 issue of WASHINGTON  FISHING&HUNTING NEWS, there is an article/map of the Maverick Saddle area. Looks like it's a little east of Fish Lake. That's where I would try if I lived in Wenatchee. I'm in Seattle, and haven't made it out there yet. One of these years, I would like to do some grouse hunting/bear scouting over there.
 Good luck!

Try the Wenatchee National Forest.

I second that suggestion. Drive into the forest and look for old abandoned slash roads and gated off logging roads. Get out of your vehicle and WALK. Look for berry patches as well as creeks.

Good luck!

Hunt high for blues and low for ruffs.  I look for the highest ridge tops and check them out. Then I'll drop down to the creek bottoms.  I prefer hunting high because you get more shot opportunities.
