Title: BIG bulls
Post by: BLUEBULLS on September 10, 2009, 07:11:53 AM
well, when will we see the first monster archery bull this year? judging by how they reacted to calls last weekend I'd say real soon. I have a feeling 3dvapor will whack a toad.

How many 400" bulls do you think we'll see from WA. this year?

my guess is 3+

I'll say one just because people seem to be trigger happy this year.  I think we'll have a batch of 380's though.

why would you even wish for something like that it would be nice, but at the same time it would put wa on the map with states like utah, arizona and new mexico where everybody would be applying every year, draw odds only get worse with every big bull taken as more non residents take notice

I think WA is actually pretty safe... as long as they keep charging $300 to get a bonus point!

2 or 3, maybe 1 from an area, not known for big bulls :hello:

 :yeah:

Who the heck would want to pay $300 a year to hunt a spike.  Or to just to put in for a preference point.

What's the word on the auction tag this year for elk?

Didn't WA have the record archery bull for a short time a few years ago until someone in Utah shot a bigger one that same year?  I thought that the WA record is well over 400" for archery.

I say 1.

Agree with Bone's "trigger happy" comment.   :hunt2:  Combination of tag+opportunity+guy-who's-willing-to-wait-out-the-sub-400"-bulls = not many.

you and bone make a good point but I know a couple die hards who will be working hard for a 400.

a 380" bull sure does look good to most guys :o

I've spent a lot of time with him scouting in the last few months, and while we have seen some good bulls, nothing over 380".  :(
I was with him til monday when his partner came over and we saw some really good bulls. He will shoot a good one, but the important thing is that he is happy with what he gets. Who knows, he may already be done.  :dunno:  ;)

400" is a pretty tall order, but we'll hopefully have a cool story and some photos to share in a couple weeks after my dad's hunt over there.

He's never killed a bull, so I plan on carrying the bullets for him!

I say we don't see a member here kill a bull bigger thank Travis'...  Maybe bigger than Charlies but not with archery gear...

There'll be 2 bulls shot over 400" this year and that dont' include tribal kills....

I don't know... Northwest hunter is a die hard...and there's a couple good ones real close to him...

I'm excited, can't wait to see what's gonna make me so jealous

Passing up a 380 bull would be very silly....unless you KNEW there was a bigger bull and you had some pretty good intel on where you might be able to find him... But a 380 bull is a special bull for sure!

The archery "typ" record has been in MT for a while, then recently went to ... AZ? I think... somewheres in the 418ish or so? cant remember... NT... must be UT or AZ?

I feel stupid for passing a 320 bull last year for a 350, then not notching a tag.
Title: Re: BIG bulls
Post by: BLUEBULLS on September 11, 2009, 07:52:11 AM
records are made to be broken... I'm not all about score. if I had a tag, I'd shoot the first bull that I would like to look at every day for the rest of my life.

It's tough to kill a 400" if you shoot 380's, but i would.

These bulls made it through last year and they are both 400+  Just waiting to see who bags them.   Here is some video me and my buds took in Nov 2008 on a deer hunt.

I think there's a pic of that bull at the SPortsman's Whorehouse in Kennewick.  Date it was shot corresponded with the rifle-rut tag.  Blue Creek Unit.  Looked about 340 (hard to tell from the angle, straight on).  Shot with a pump-action rifle.

I know of a couple 400+ from WA this year but I bet we see a couple more soon.
