Title: Whitetail in the Palouse? Units 127-142 HELP!!!!
Post by: Wyoming08 on September 10, 2009, 04:52:53 PM
So, my son and I had some dumb luck this year and put in with a cousin from the east side who "knows the area". You know one of those relatives who talk a big talk but when its time for action they are nowhere to be found.  :beatdeadhorse: He was glad we drew out, but is now not to sure where to go.  :bash:  This is our first year hunting over in the area, and we are lost on what to do for our hunt.  It is a late hunt (NOV 7-19) and so we won't be around during the general season taking anyones Hunny Hole.   Does anyone have some advice for some out of towners?  You know us southwest guys :o  Thanks, Casey

Great tag.  some big whitetails on the snake river breaks up high where the wheat fields meet the big canyons.  near Almota  along boyer park and up river to Clarkston.  Near Colfax look for trees and brush near the fields.  Talk to the farmers most of it is private.

If it's the extra tag for a doe most of the land owners will let you hunt.  Get your permission early though, because those folks really get hammered during modern deer.

Great year to have the tag if you have good access.  Never seen so many 155"+ bucks in one year.  Chasing a buck with archery tackle that is pushing 170".   Easy to kill a decent 4 or 5 during that season.  As always, access is key!   Good luck........

and gray...haha.

a lot of that area is private land. my hunting party has been on the same piece of private land for 20 years now (ive only been going for like 8). that late buck tag should be a good one if you can find access. good luck!

stay in 127 if you can, 130 too if your looking for BIG whitetails! The southern portions of the latter have a ton of whities, size is lots of average. Can't even remember when the last B&C buck was taken in the Palouse region, not many
