Get up in the woods. Forrest grouse are in the forrest. I seam to find them at all elevations in the Vancouver, St.Helen's area. The blue grouse tend to be at high elevations. good luck

my dad grew up in Maple Valley, near where the Olson golf course is now, and has told me he used to hunt grouse all the time in his back yard as a kid. While they may not be inhabiting what is now the golf course anymore (and you might not be welcome there toting your shotgun ;) ), I've got to believe that if one went east of there, into the forested areas east of 276th, eg Taylor Mountain area, you'll find them. Just stay out of the watershed property.

Brushy hardwood bottoms = ruffeds, open coniferous ridges (esp. young clearcuts that haven't been sprayed for broadleaf control) for blues. That, and anywhere you find them. Good luck.
