Title: Lincoln County Muley meets the Grim Reaper!. R.I.P.
Post by: Northwest75 on September 16, 2009, 10:11:29 AM
I got tired of Hiding in the bushes when a 5x4 Buck and other Bucks walked by my ground blind at about 5 yards. Stopped looked in and went on their Merry way. I was across about 100 yards opposite the Ground Blind in the sage Brush. Yesterday, They were scared of the Blind.  . I got fed up and tried to stalk the Muleys in the Cut Alfalfa Field but a Doe saw me and the Entire Herd was on Alert. So I walked like normal through the Field to calm the herd down. i decided to head back to the ambush spot to catch some stragglers passing bye. before I got there I observed about 6 Does and a Buck at the rear making their way down the Hill toward the Alfalfa field. I had no choice but to squat down behind a Wind Row of Alfalfa that was about 8 inches high. ( I Hope my trophy Blend "Sage" Scent does it magic!) I changed position and Knelt and stayed Still. The does neared me. I slowly Raised my Range Finder and slowly Ranged them. The lead doe was at 20 yards and moving in toward me!. She and the others kept trying to Smell me But they couldn't get a Scent. The Wind was blowing right at them. Finally, the Buck came up behind the does and looked my Way. I slowly ranged him at 50 yards exactly. He also tried to wind me, But to no avail. I could see that he had Velvet 3x3 plus 2 Eye Guards over 1 inch. Which makes him a legal 4x4 in Washington State. I Slowly raised my Nocked Bow and set the Vital Bow gear slider sight to the 50 yard Pin. As I raised it toward him. he snorted and turned away slightly quartering. As th does started to leave. The Buck stopped to look at them. I placed the 50 yard Pin directly on the Bucks left front Shoulder blade Low. RELEASE!............THWACK!. He High Kicks and takes off away from me. he Goes about 45 yards and tumbles to the ground and rolls. BUCK DOWN, BUCK DOWN!.  I only had about 30 minutes of legal hunting time left. So hurried and called some friend to help me with the transport. So I wasn't able to get good pics  until I got him back to the garage. The Grim Reaper did it job. Starrflight Fobs Guiding the HADES like a Deadly Tomahawk Missile. Mossy oak Camo Worked great out in the Open Alfalfa Field and Trophy Blend Deer scent Did magic on the noses of the Muleys. They couldn't smell me, So I wasn't a threat. Giving me enough time to lay some Brown down!.
p.s My Local Wildlife officer has seen and Inspected my bow Cam to make sure it is not a laser aiming device. I was clered to use it.

here's the Bow cam Video from the Muley kill. Its nothing Fancy and I'm no editing pro. But i think you folks will enjoy the vid. I was cleared by my local Game Warden to have the cam on my bow. He inspected it to make sure there was no laser aiming device on it and that it was only for filming. So I'm legal. The sound you hear is the Vibration from the riser transferring to the bow cam waterproof enclosure. This was a 50 yard shot and the Buck never heard the shot until the Grim Reaper hades was ripping through him.

Cool vid.
I'm not doubting what you wrote, but i did not know the wardens could or would do that, check and make a judgment of legallity over what the regs say, do they give you a note saying that its ok?? And if they can make those decisions regardless of what the regs say that just shows that they can interpret the laws the way they want to..

I have a written letter. There is only one Game Warden for My county and we meet occasionally during teaching Hunters ed. But he reviewed and inspected it and said he had no problems with. I mainly hunt Lincoln, so I'm not overly worried. But if i went to Spokane or another area with multiple Wardens, Then i would not have the cam on my bow but on my head. He said that they are looking for electronic devices that emit a laser to help with pin pointing Animals. That would be unethical and unsporting like. . You'll differently get tagged for that.

Oh ok, i read and reread the regs and it clearly says no as in no electronic devices can be attached to a bow, no where did i read if the warden says it's ok, any chance you can send me a copy of the written letter so i can get the same from my warden and attach a cam to my bow, you can pm me the letter if you'd rather not post it. If not i guess i can contact the warden for the area and ask to get a copy..

Have you guys gone into your local Game Headquarters and have your bow inspected? Just tell them that its for filming and no laser beam is connected to it.  There's the Law and the letter of the Law. Just because something states that it is illegal doesn't mean that someone gets a ticket or arrested. This is called "Reasoning" A good cop know that many things in the regs are on the gray line right now. just like with the carrying concealed while archery deer hunting. you are supposed to have the back up gun concealed with a concealed gun permit. But if they see you with the gun in a holster on the outside of your body exposed. They won't tag you for that even though it says its illegal. you can carry concealed only. But he said that order comes straight from headquarters. Now if i go and hunt in a area with several different wardens. I might get a ticket. some Gamey's don't have that "Reasoning"  Skills and might be too happy to fill his ticket Quota. lol. A intelligent officer can see that a bow cam can't be used for lazing a deer. You guys need to have a meet and greet with the officers that you would meet out in the field. get to know them.  If they tell me to take it off. I do so. Its only held on with two ties. You need to have you bow with cam on it inspected by a gamey for the area you hunt. See what they say. Next time the 3 yr. rules and regs process comes around. we need to meet and get the electronic devices regs to to be removed. I didn't know there were other folks out here that like to use bow cams?

I am still confused, i did not know that the wardens could make adjustments to the regs based on what they think the law should be, i thought they were to uphold the laws the way they are written, yes enforcement officers have the descretion to make judgments and reason, if they think a violation deserves a ticket (not unlike a traffic stop) based on the contact during the violation, but i am still not understanding how an enforcment officer can issue a written letter of use allowing as in this case the use of an electronic device to be used when the laws says that they are not allowed, it does not say they are not allowed unless you get a note? I also thought that the laws written covered all hunters, in all counties and all gmu's within the state of washington and were not subject to an amendement by a simple letter of approval, would the warden not have to get an ok from his captain that in effect would then have to be approved by the wdfw chief that an individual would be allowed to have a device that per the regs is not allowed., allowed for this person and in doing so a precident would be then then set to allow everyone to have the same right?? I would like to have a bow mounted cam and not get cited for it, a copy of your letter of approval to take with me to the office would be great. As i hunt multiple units in the state i want to be able to have a sweeping letter of approval that will cover me in any unit..

Wow i'm surprised that it would make all this hoopla. I don't hunt out of my area. And if i did i would remove it. I'm gonna contact him and tell him about my experience using a bow cam for the first time. I'll probably remove it for the rest of my hunts.

First of all I would like to Apologize to Folks here. I spoke to the Officer that gave me verbal Permission. After some folks kept pushing the issue about that.  I just wanted to annoy them, So I said I had a Note. I don't have a note but had Verbal Permission.  I spoke to the Officer after he got off the line with his Captain and they are aware of this incident. I wasn't trying to use a Electronic device to out perform a deer but was only trying to Film it for the memory.  But the Officer and His Captain said that this section about Electronics is " Ambiguous" Having more than one meaning. They said that the Higher ups need to look over this part of the regs. Maybe if enough of us are interested about Bow cams, They might change that law. I did Delete the Video today out of respect for people here. I just Got pissed that people called me out on the forum and didn't go through Pm'.s So I kept Pushing it.  The video will return and further Video cams will be from my Hat Cam or other device. I have the highest respect for the Wild Life Officer and the hard work they do. I am embarrassed that they had to take time out of their busy work to deal with this. My respects to Officer, Sgt. ( Gamie) and the Captain.  I wish some folks here had asked me through other means. Thank you and God Bless. Stay Safe.

Good on ya, it takes a man to admit he was stretching things a little. It maybe could have been handled a little bit better but unfortunately it wasn't. Now that we all know that you had a verbal only, folks can quit asking for a copy of the letter. I hope they don't charge you with anything but it is hard to say.

It does serve a reminder to all that caution should prevail when posting kills stories and pictures. Use the utmost judgement because you never know who is looking and what they will pick up on. Everyone wants to see pictures and then they home in on something and start shredding the hunter that psoted them. Gamie is a good guy and he has a tough job, let's hope all turns out well.

Thanks again for setting things straight.

I didn't single out anybody in particular. I have spoken to the Officer involved after I called their Office to Speak to him. I have been emailing back and forth with Gamie. The officer did give me a verbal O.K and saw my Bow and cam.  he and the Captain Agrees that the Specific Electronics law is Very Vague and " Ambiguous" and is open to multiple Interpretations. The said it needs to be review. I did Apologize to the officer that i spoke to in person and he has passed it on to the captain. I told them that i have Deleted the Video for now and have removed my cam from my bow and will place it somewhere else. They are cool with that. I asked him to have the Captain call me at home to clarify thing. I was verbally Reprimanded. I have learned from this and moving on.

This person/member has admitted his error and apologized. There is no further reason to keep flaming him. I have deleted two posts doing just that. Now I am going to lock it now so it ends here.

Let's move on to a more positive topic and enjoy your weekend.
