Here's some pics of a super buck hit by a car a couple years ago on Blewitt Pass. The DOT guys picked him up and some one emailed me the pics. I posted them at the time on MM. I never did find out what they did with it.

He wasn't the tripod buck you guys were talking about was he. I bet 300 would put the drop on that.
-
Thats a darned fine buck, too bad he went out the way he did.
-
I remember that pic from MM
what a stud buck. i agree too bad he went the way he did.
-
I hate it when they get hit. That is a dandy for sure.
-
That buck kind of resembles Garrets dads buck from 06.
-
I cant believe the person that hit it didnt decap him. Must have been one of those old ladies I get stuck behind every time I drive over that highway.
-
That is different than the tripod buck, very different genetics.
-
ive seen some monsters like that on blewitt pass...my buddie hit one last year that was probably 170-180class buck. never did find it after 1 hour of looking. so it must not have been hurt to bad
-
he is damn nice!
-
Bruiser.

Oh they did cape it....well that is my guess on the true end result. That is a DOT guy and the deer was actually alive for a while (when reported) laying just past a "Deer" warning sign. It died from when it was reported and the DOT showed up. The second photo is in the Wen. DOT shop. When questioned about where the deer went the two DOT guys claimed to have dumped it in one of the winter kill pits. The same pit they drove by to get from where it was picked up to get back to the shop for more photos. Game guys went right out and what do you know no deer. Must have been the "Big Foot" living in the area pulled it out for winter meat. The last I heard the deer still has not shown up. My opinion is that it was a legitimate road kill with witnesses so not a major deal. I just hate the fact they lied (my opinion only) on what they did with it. Worst case the state would have it mounted and displayed, but not let them keep it if they fessed up to where it is. Now that they have lied about it if it is ever found they will probably been in trouble.
-
Too bad.....it had to go out like that, and too bad no one knows where it's at, or what happened to it.
-
I believe I know what happened to the tripod buck...I never saw him after the 2003 season after hunting for his sheds in 2002 relentlessly to no avail.
For those of you who know that buck as well as I do (Lowedog) check out the Feb-Mar. 2004 issue of Eastmans, pp. 40-41. I will not say the guys name on here but I did try to look him up and contact him to show him pictures of that buck before he shot him. I believe his lives on the Westside of the state and has no clue as to what a legend that buck was in the valley. I used to call him the "candlestick".
Lowedog got your email awhile ago but for some reason couldn't respond on here, I'll try again. Anyways, everything went good. Should of done better but that story needs to be told in person.
-
I thought if you stayed around for the WSP to show up and do the report and the Fish & Game came and did their thing then you could keep it if you requested. Also, if noone was there to claim the game then it was to go to F & G. DOT has no business in making the claim or disposing of it. Those 2 guys that said they dumped it should have been fired. IMO :dunno:
-
That's a big WA buck for sure...bummer it died infront of some headlights instead of my scope....
-
If anyone has that issue of Eastman's I would love to see it.
Todd, let me know if your coming up this way. I'd love to hear the story and BS with you some. I'm off all next week if your going to be around maybe we can go look for some bucks.

Lowedog...I thought it might be, but on closer inspection deffinately not. Similar on the right but way diff. on the left. That Oregon buck is a stud.
-
Whoever has that pic may want to rethink posting it with the Dept of Interior sign on their bedroom wall. Just an FYI, if real, possession of the sign is a violation of federal law. :dunno:
-
yah not the same that second deer has a kicker off his left beam. The raod kill buck doesnt have a kicker at all. But you are right. they do show some resemblance.........
-
Buckshot. Actually the DOT does have the responsability to pick up and dispose of the deer hit along the highway. They have pits that they get dumped in. As far as keeping it and lying about it that is a different story, who knows. People know where the DOT dump deer that are picked up. There are many folk that stop regularly at those pits and cut horns off of the deer that are dumped all the time. DOT could have dumped it and then someone came along and took them???
-
wish it was me. man what a beauty!!!
-
i am pretty sure that last year, there was a story in the paper here that a few workers of the DOT got caught with racks, maybe this one. in the shop. Also they got caught with whole deer, they were bucks i believe too, and were butchering them in the DOT shop. they got in trouble by their boses i believe or maybe the cops, cant remember the whole story. So i am sure this stuff goes on all the time.
I should have that issue, i can barely remember seeing a picture i thought was tripod in Eastmans. I think it was close but didnt think it was really him. But again its been so long i cant remember. I think they said that buck was killed some where off stevens pass if i remember right. I think i did a little research to try to find out. More info would be great if anybody had any
-
the buck in the picture above is an oregon buck..not the same animal.
-
Guilty as charged :'( I am currently serving out my 20 year sentence at Mcneil, they got me in solitary right now next to a guy that ripped a tag of his mattress.LOL
Call me a criminal, but if I am in the high desert of Eastern Oregon, hunting or riding my dirt bike and I see a sign laying on the ground and its obvious that it has been there a while and I doubt they send people out with hammer and nails or wire and snips to put these signs up, its going home with me! :chuckle:
I guess I am unrepentent, so much for my parole hearing!!! :o
I hope no one catchs my step dad, he would be doing 6 consecutive life sentences!
-
Finn..funny stuff. Just getting some of the money back you gave the government before they gave it away to a dope addict, illegal allien, or some 3rd world country who sells us oil for 100 a barrel. I tow the line pretty close, but I' m with you on this one.
-
Finnman, sorry man, it's in the blood.... :dunno:
-
