after 11 days of elk hunting i got back Sunday night we loaded packs and took off Monday morning our camp was about 8 1/2 miles in we got there late Monday afternoon while my uncle set up camp i took off to go glass spotted the goat we would end up shooting that night right before dark a few miles away. the next morning we took off in that direction we ended up finding him again at 2:30 bedded down on the snow. we put a good mile stalk to get as close as we could, it was still a long ways though we ranged it at 452 yards we weren’t gonna take the shot but we had about 20 mins of stacking packs and rocks to get a good rest he finally stood up and I took the shot. It worked out better then we could ever hope for first day of the hunt and it was over. It was hard to make the call to shoot because it was the only goat we saw so far but he was too big to pass on
Perfect hunt
Green score
gross - 50 0/8
net - 49 6/8
He was 9 1/2 inches long with 5 7/8 bases

It's amazing how I missed this topic. Fantastic goat and congratulations on a job well done.
-
I htink you've been a little busy Ray.
I wish I had more time allotted, as I have been dieing for some more goat shots and everything keeps falling through. I'd have you guide me out there. That camera is only slightly lighter than your goat. LOL Its just like shooting one and then another and then another., but th ehunt never ends.

I saw 7 goats on tuesday. Yes, been busy.

Wow can't believe I missed this Thread.
Great Job dobby, that's a great looking animal!
-
Great goat dobby, I think a lot of people missed this one since it was started right after the outage.
That goat looks like it would be a great entry in the 2nd Annual Head & Horn competition.

-
Damn nice goat! I wouldn't have passed either. Way to go.
-
That is one nice looking animal. Great pics and story. Be sure to post pics of the finished mount.

I'd guess he's five and half years old from the rings. I could be overlooking one at the base.
Five is usually when they really are mature body wise. They don't get much bigger after that.
His horn length is good for that age class. He is definatly a shooter. He'll eat a whole lot better than an old 9-11yr old grandpa.
Good luck with finding a good taxidermist. Thats a hunt in itself.
Congrats on a WA goat.
