I saw on the WDFW website I believe were they have approved splitting the 2008 eastern deer tag into 2 different ones, one for whitetails and one for muleys. Will be interesting to see how that effects ticket sales next year.
-
LOL, sounds like they came up with another way to create revenue. They know most that bought a ticket will now buy at least one for each species, probably doubling last years cache'.

Ain't that the truth.
-
Woudn't see that the whitetail option would be as fun since you can pretty much hunt them during the prime time anyway.
-
Your right Bone, however there are lots of units that have big whities that are shut down duruing that time of year. I know the entire Twisp river valley has some pigs in it but closes with the general hunt, same with Swakane and Entiat. Garret got pics of a nice one last year while helping his dad, I think it was in the Entiat.

Isn't that the point with the raffle and governor tags? Raise some $$?
-
Think its a great idea!
-
may make it slightly easier to draw. although most people it seems are after muleys.
-
I agree with the revenue part!
-
One thing is for sure the outfitters that do drop camps for mule deer don't care too much for the whitetail. They see them invading mule deer country and taking up the winter feed as they are more aggressive at those hay stacks come winter time.
-
It potentially will be more revenue for WDFW. They need twice what they have. Even with the messed up political mess running the agency if they had more money we would benefit. Yes they would waste more, but we would also see some good come from it. I dislike their pee poor excuses and upper management policies like others on here. With extra cash they would probably allow some better programs to be tried or implemented because their idiotic programs would not be affected. Heck I say give one tage to RMEF and MDF to auction, with a requirement the money would have to be spent in the state of Washington.
-
Good point Miles. I always thought the ground opened up and swallowed the big whities about the 15th of December though. They sure aren't around when I am looking for bone. Ibet its a great way to make revenue for the state. Hell, do what Idaho does, hold one raffle in June, then another in August. Twice the money for only one more animal. Probably just end up as wolf or cougar scat anyway, or an prnament for someones grill in front of the DOT.
-
Super tags, How about one also for Deer, Elk and Moose, or Deer Elk and Sheep or Goat.
-
Speaking of super tags in Idaho. A friend of mine in ID helped us out on a draw unit therelast yr. He was lucky to draw back to back super deer tags in 04' and 05' .

It seems like it makes sense to be able to kill a muley and a whitetail each year.
I think I should be able to buy the all 5 tag (one elk, one blacktail or whitetail, one muley, cougar, bear) instead of the all 4 tag (elk, deer, bear, cougar). I mean...it seems like theres as much difference between hunt an Eastern Muley / Western BT as there is a BT and elk.
Ill pay an additional 20$ for the 5th tag... wouldnt that make the whole package 100$ per year?
sounds like revenue and logical to me.
I know that biologists basically dont like the whitetails pushing the muleys... Id love to be part of that solution.
Then again, Im really just trying to find a legal way to kill more animals...lol
No matter what Ill normally hunt 3-4 states or even more per year just to get the bag limits I want.
Might as well be revenue spent in this state.
Hell, They could make the 2nd deer tag kinda pricey and Id still be game... say 100$ for a 2nd deer tag??
You'd get 170$ from most serious INSTATE hunters...thats more than double and Id bet 85% of the guys on here would be game.
-
I like your idea but it would have to be a mulie/blacktail tag and a whitetail tag. if everyone had a tag that gave them only the mule deer option it would put that much more pressure on our already over pressured mulie herds. but there are definitely enough whitetail to give out extra tags for them.
-
That sounds like something were they would combine the black tail and mule deer. segregate the multi branched from the single branched deer.
I would be down with an extra 100 dollar tag to shoot another deer.
-
I seriously hope that someone on this site draws that tag this year.
-
I'm with you Huntnphool, so do I.
I can guarantee it won't be me, the 4 tickets I bought last year are going towards the moose tag this year. I had my chance. :chuckle:
-
im probably going to draw the raffle tag myself this year, so you guys dont bother buying putting in. :chuckle:
-
I know where to go for assistance if need be if I were to draw it.
-
Garrett,
You will have to learn a different area, the Entiat blows!!!!
-
haha, when i draw, Dan i am going to make you come back over and for like a week, we are going to hike all over, and torture you all over again!!! :chuckle:
-
I will donate 50Cal's truck for you to abuse as you see fit. :chuckle:
-
Deal. I think its time for me to come over and cash my beers in.
-
Yeah lets all abuse my truck! Probably why I've been to the Chiropractor Mon,Tues,Today & going back again tomorrow. Lots of fun!

I just did a cursory look at the WDFW site (OK, a glance, got a crappy connection tonight in a hotel) and I couldn't find the price of the raffle "tickets". How much are they? I haven't bought these yet, but after 300's story this past year, I definitely plan to.
-
$4.93 each, way better than the $15K the Gov guys pay, but it's all relative.
-
Thanks .300. I enjoyed your endeavor, I would have had a tough time passing on some you described. I am new to the site, I am going to try and PM you, have a question for you.

Ouch that hurts bone, LOL. well if it is true maybe i will hunt both this year. ;)
