Here's a Oryx I killed in Feb down on the WSMR. First year, drew out. Good fun hunt. Thought you guys might like to look at it. Later
-
What did you do with that monster, are you gettin a head mount?
-
Yea, Bucklucky looked at it the other night. Why don't you post some pics of that stag you killed this year down in NZ. These folks like lookin at pics Criss.
-
What is WSMR?
-
White Sands Missle Range, New Mexico.
-
Beautiful Oryx, I always thought you couldn't take a camera on the range? You have taken some nice critters. I have seen some of your critters on BTC.
-
Thanks Ironhead, you're right about the cameras. We stashed ours in the morning outside the gate, before they searched our rig. That pic was taken about 300-400 yards down the road from the entrance to the WSMR. Kinda pain in the ass, but if you get caught bootlegging a camera onto the range, you forefit your tag, which is 1 per lifetime.
-
Nice Oryx, I always thought about putting in but haven't. Did you go DIY or did you use a guide?
-
If you apply on line with a credit card it only cost you $6. Then if you get drawn it cost around $1,700. Deadline to apply is before all the other draws, I believe you have to apply by march maybe sooner.
-
The tag was $1616.00, I believe the deadline in in Feb. I went guided, $1200.00 through USO, my pard got to go for free, that was meals for both, hotel, and transportation in the field.Steak & Lobster both nights along with brewski. A guy could kill one on his own pretty easy, but with the tag fee and only a 2 day season, once in a lifetime draw, I didn't want to chance it. Also, you are unable to scout, so the guide fee was a pretty small price to pay.
-
Sounds like a good time and fun hunt. Thanks for showing the pic.
-
Very Nice!!! Looks like a fun hunt!!!Congrats
-
Awesome, I put in for it, but didn't draw. guess I got the elk tag though. I'm not sure if I will put in this year as I'm not sure I can handle the money going out. Congrats on the hunt.
-
You ever get drawn, let me know, I'll go with ya.
-
That is an awesome looking animal! I drew a tag for Stallion Range Jan. 19,20 2008. Which part of the range were you on? Any words of wisdom?
-
Yes, I have some words of wisdom for you. I drew the Stallion Range Feb 16-17 of 07'. Check your PM, I'll give my #, leave a message if I'm not home, I'll call ya back. It will be worth the call. Later

Awesome lookin' animal 257. Definately a once in a lifetime thing down there. The wife and I are both fortunate enough to have a couple of our own as well. Only we got ours on another continent. ;) Either way.....incredibley beautiful animals.

MAN Those are awesome!
-
could you tell the difference of male female before you shot them. the only thing im seeing other than possibly having the opourtunity tosee some plumbing is the patch doesnt connect between the eyes.
-
the females horns are longer but carry less mass, the males are shorter but a lot heavier.
-
Thanks slyer, I'm glad I killed a bull, they have a bigger head, chest and shoulders. The guide I hunted with said cows usually have longer horns, but aren't as heavy. The bull I killed was 36''X8''. We seen some cows that were pushing 40'', but weren't as impressive.Get that app in Doug, I'd love to go back down.grin....

Exactly right jack....
After spending some time huntin' em' and seeing them every day it becomes second nature to tell the difference. Then to actually see them on the ground.....the Bulls are definately impressive. I'm actually gettin' mine put on a pedestal.
