Title: Yelp Has a Buck Down
Post by: Wacenturion on October 02, 2009, 12:10:34 PM: Got home last night after hunting with Yelp and crew the past six days. Just got a call from Yelp from the field............buck down. Waiting on cell phone photos to arrive. He will, I'm sure post pictures and story later today. Must be good luck when I leave.............the day after I left turkey camp he got his second gobbler.......lol. Hey Yelp.............glad I could be of assistance on your buck. Sorry I'm not there to help pack it out....not...:chuckle:

Post by: yelp on October 02, 2009, 09:55:34 PM: Well I have been at it all week trying to get on a legal buck. I finally had a good wind to hunt a particular area. I packed up the fanny pack, knight bighorn and the tripod sticks. I walked in next to an area I have hunted before. I have been scouting this area all week and saw 0 deer. Knowing the area and where the deer liked to bed in years past, I approached with the wind in my face. I worked my way through the cover creepy peaking around, I come over a rocky area and right below me I spot this buck preening himself. I see he is legal and drop back out of site. I drop my shooting sticks and prepare for shot, safetys off, come up to a knee and putit right behind shoulder. At the shot the smoke filled the air and couldn't see where exactly I hit. His right front leg was broke as he ran a short ways. I reloaded and finally was able to get another one in him. I went back and got my meat cart and got him out. I am excited this was my first muzzleloader buck and hopefully not my last. I have a few buds still in camp and we will be hunting all weekend. I will try and post a few more pics.

Post by: yelp on October 04, 2009, 11:52:20 AM: :dunno: Little nuts (peanut M&M size)..I talked to a bio and he said might be EHD (Epizootic Hemmoraghic disease) (Blue-tongue related)..rare in Mule Deer but causes bucks to keep velvet. The velvet seems dried up on the horns not spongy.

Post by: yelp on October 04, 2009, 08:40:57 PM: 5 minutes to dark we had a 27" Hawgzilla at 130 yards broadside....MISS! That was my buddies 3rd miss in 9 days. He felt bad....we were close. That is hunting..With a full moon and wind storm we had last night the deer were on the move tonight. We saw over 135 deer. 3 legal bucks. My other buddy called and he got his buck this morning a nice 4 pt. So out of 6 hunters 3 got deer (all 4 pts.) Great Season.

Finnman...There were lots of small bucks this year..but if you hunt hard you will find one..That late archery hunt is always fun..hope all is well.
