I'm wanting to see some photo's of pre-1970's vehicles. Truck's, car's, Tractor's' Equipment, ???... Ones that you have found while hiking or just driving in the rig. Ones that have been left for dead.
This is an old White motor co. dumptruck left behind by Puget sound pulp and timber co. Near Lake Cavanaugh Washington.

Not sure what year or make of truck this is but I found it in Alaska. It has wooden spokes for rims.

Here is a 56 chevy that my Dad has left for dead in his barn. I hope one day he will rebuild it know that he is retired.

Awesome pic topic.
One of my uncles has atleast a dozen trucks from the 20's to 40's in his back pasture. He says he's going to get working on them when he retires.
We had one in the woods behind our house when I was a kid that had a couple of trees growing right up through the long gone floor and roof of the car.
-
I found another one that was "Left for dead."

These are from the same place near Cavanaugh. I grew up in this area. We call it the bone yard.

-
wouldn't you like to know the story behind rigs like these
-
pretty cool seeing them, I also wonder what the story is behind the cars and where they had been
-
I found an old yarder this year that had been left by some loggers. Should've gotten a picture of that...
-
Problem is with the new gate it is a little bit further of a trek to Lake Cavanaugh.
-
Problem is with the new gate it is a little bit further of a trek to Lake Cavanaugh.
It sure was quite a trek. I walked from the gate. It was approx. eleven miles round trip. I hiked about thirteen miles that day with a couple of side trips into some places my granddad had told me about.
I found the frame of an old steam donkey.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi251.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fgg291%2Fburrheadcountry%2F013-1.jpg&hash=991f246ea860f59c5212b0dd55a7863a72a0568f)
And also some glass insulators one still had the post with it.

-
Not going to lie i had no idea what a "steam donkey" was? I looked it up and I'll be honest it was not what i thought. :dunno: my mind almost got drug into the gutter!!! Anyway, cool find!
-
Heres an old truck I found this weekend while hunting off wenas road south of ellensburg.
-
And another. I have an old 40's bus, and an old plymoth fury abandoned on my property up in Darrington. They have been there for 30+ years. You can barely find them. I will see if I have a pic.
-
hey i'll give you a thousand bucks for that beat up '56 chevrolet....it's just taking up garage space...might as well sell it to me ;)
-

Sorry TEX not mine to sell. Maybe you should hit up silverslayer for that cool ford with some minor body damage. The rear bumber looks to be in excellent condition.
-
can you imagine the look on people face if i was to drive that 70's model for around with all the bullet holes....that would be priceless....
55, 56, and 57 chevrolets are very very very hard to come by nowadays...well you can find them but the restored ones are going for a 30,000 to 50,000 bucks.... and you can find ones that are sitting in a pasture rusted out with a tree groing through the middle for 10 or 15000....if you look at the NADA blue book the price will actually go up depending on what type of tree is growing out of the middle  :chuckle:
-
That thing didn't have a motor in it so I'm guessing someone towed it up there after parting it out and rolled it down a hill. The truck doesn't even have a rear axle.
-
2 door chevys

My dad has a running/driving '56 four door for sale right now. He's asking $7800 for it. It's probably a 15 year old restoration. Definitely not pristine, but it has potential. I wish he'd just restore it and drive it but he's laid off so it needs to go.

Here's an old Gibson Tractor that has been left for dead.

I bet some of these vehicles we see that are dumped out in the woods and fields only needed a little work to get them going again.
-
i found what looked like a 1940's ford panel truck (wagon?) off in some trees that border an old apple orchard by riffe lake. probably back before they flooded the town of Riffe and Kosmos. i tried to take a pic with my cell phone but it was too dark. i really like this topic though!
-
Hey!! Stop taking pictures of my hunting rig!! :P
-
I am sure some of these pictures could have come out of my Dads yard. His famous line was "it ran when I parked it and I will get to it when I retire". The best thing that ever happened at my house growing up beside curbside garbage (Dad never knew what we threw in that) was when the neighbor bought a junk yard and said " if you tow it to the road I will make it go away" We went from 23 trucks and cars on our place to 4 in just a few weeks :IBCOOL:. Dad had a fit but he never tried to replace them. He has been retired for 7 years now, and his #1 priority when he retired (1975 Cessna) is still sitting in his shop waiting for him to get to it. Never has the time but his boat 2004 boat has 2500 hours on the big motor :chuckle:. Priorities...gotta love em.

I found this old diesel engine laying along side an old mine road near Twisp. It has been left for dead.

I found this old VW bug along side a logging road today. It was hard to tell it was a VW. It even had the engine in it still.

Here are a few. Let me know if you have seen them.
-
Ya all don't have a chance keeping up with burrhead. He lives in Skagit county, I about crapped myself when I moved over here from eastern WA. Never seen so many dumped in the woods rigs in my life! Old and new, you would almost think that there were no recking yards in Skagit County with the number of rigs that get dumped every year out here.
Shootmoore

Somewhere in the middle of Montana...

Yeah its a pretty sad thing to see all of the crap that's dumped around the woods here. I've lived here for 39 years and it just seems to get worse, even with all the gate closers.

Here's an old US Navy 4x4 truck I seen in Wrangell Alaska. It still had the USN issued tires on it. I thought it was a cool looking old truck.
-
Here's an old dozer. Left for dead.
-
I know where there are two cars pushed off into a gnarly draw off of an old, old road. The road is a nature walk now.
If I end up hunting around there this year, I'll remember to take a picture of them.
-
So thats what happend to my dads old ford.
-
Found this one in Oregon. There was another just like it not too far away. Wish these old rigs could talk.
-
Cant find a pic of the whole car.....

-
Hey guys Thanks for keeping this thread going. Man there are some cool old rigs out there. Does anyone have any from around St. Helens?
-
Here are a few. Let me know if you have seen them.
I know where that ol' trolley/train car is at. Saw it this spring.
-
too bad about that GTO
Yeah, the Judge is probably the most popular of the 60's GTO's. Could be worth a lot of money.

If you go up into Sierra Pacific land, where the 200 intersects with the 220 there's a 40's Chev down in the bottom of that ravine. If you hike out the trail/railroad grade to Bear Lake and Three Lakes, there's a bunch of steam machinery over the edge there.
The area behind the horse camp below Josephine was a dumping ground for stolen cars for a long time. Jackman creek road too. Here in Whatcom county I'd say that Northfork road gets the most cars dumped on the DNR land there. There's a little S-10 on Highway 9 between VanZant and Acme that showed up a few weeks ago.
Who the hell would steel an S-10? :bash:
-Steve
-
Found a rig this weekend. I was calling this moose in and I spot something red, it was a car at the bottom of this hill. The bull hung up just beyond it...I now wonder if he spotted it too and it was too much for him. It was fairly modern car. Piss poor luck for me.
-
I'll have to get a picture, my brother in law bought a place that has a 1955 chevy nomad pushed over a cliff behind his house near Shelton. He told me that a group of hippies used to rent that place and they did it.
-
Jack id don't think its an S-10 i believe it is a red nissan 2wd... Even worse than an S10 to steel! :bash:

i'm pretty sure that's a 1971 GTO and you could find a numbers matching fully restored one for under $25,000. maybe more if it is a judge. :dunno:
now if i could just sh*t $25,000. :chuckle:
1969 Ram Air IV convertible is the ultimate GTO for collectors ~ $750,000

Found this one today. Why is the National Forests so full of them?? :dunno:

Left for dead
-
This one is in the Methow River. :yike:
-
If you float the Methow you won't be able to count the cars that have been left for dead.
-
If you float the Methow you won't be able to count the cars that have been left for dead.
Very true. I know of three others but don't have pictures of them yet.
-
If you float the Methow you won't be able to count the cars that have been left for dead.
Imagine this! Way back some time after the 1948 flood the powers to be decided to use the old junk cars for rip rap in the river to keep it from washing away more land. The benefits were, got rid of the junkers, place for the fish to live, helped stop washing. Then at a later date when the river was well littered and lots of gear grease to leak for years to come the next power to be decided to make the Methow a scenic river and they pulled a good share of the ones out that hadn't been ground up in hi waters. That is why there is so much scrap pieces of metal in and along the river.
-
cool history to know.
-
I found this old hood piece on the river bank.
-
Wish I had one of these old trucks.

Idahobooner - I was thinking the same thing. I have seen junkers used for shoring up the river banks along the Newaukum, Chehalis, Willapa, and a handful of other rivers that escape me at the moment. Usually when salmon or steelhead fishing. I used to think it was funny (in an odd sort of way), when we were in high school and jumping off of bridges and train trestles that one particular spot I ventured, but never jumped off the trestle, one of my friends said if you jump off the trestle stay to the left or right. I don't remember which side, but his sound reasoning was that there were some car bodies under the water on the left or right and he said you don't want a car hood up the rectum.
I don't ever remember anyone ever getting hurt, but still thinkg it was kind of odd that people still jumped into the river on a regular basis from 30 - 60 feet up.
-
Same truck. :o Left for dead
-
Found several old trucks out hunting, found an early 50's truck, think it was a chev, during early archery miles from any road. Forgot my camera that day :bash: I'll have to start taking some pics when I find em.
For now this is the only pic I have, maybe not what you are looking for, but it is left for dead , even has a tree growing through it
-
Here is my favorite Left for dead that I have found so far. It's an old Road Grader. :IBCOOL:
-
One more.
-
Pomeroy area.
-
I know this isn't an old tractor or truck, but it is a piece of equipment sitting outside a mine shaft in Idaho.
-
That works for me Longstevo.
-
Here are a few. Let me know if you have seen them.
i know where the first one is
-
Wanted to say again what a great topic. I love seeing the pictures of the old rigs that have been left outdoors. Seen many over the years just never had a camera with me.

wow, all these photos in full size would make a really nice calendar.

Its really amazing how much more rust accumulates on the westside than the eastside...all that damn salt in the air :bash:
-
There sure is a lot of abandoned vehicles in the woods.
-
Beautiful, in a weird way, to watch the earth take something back.
Makes you wonder. If every last human died tomorrow. How long would it take before you would never know that a human had been to New York City?
-
Won't be long for these guys. Poor old Comet
-
Longstevo I think it has less to do with salt, around here anyway, than it has to do with the near constant dampness... After you get a good layer of green slime and some fir needles in all the groves and such it don't take very long for sheet metal to disappear. :twocents:

I shot my first deer about 1991 about 25 feet behind that combine, then shot my first cougar a year later laying under those tree's in the upper left pic. Boy it was great going up in that valley!!!!!

Got the pic from online but have been to the site on the Wynoochee and looked down at it
we lived in Grisdale until about '73 and remember my mom talking about being an extra in the movie about the "burning ring of fire"....her "claim to fame" at that time was giving one of the stars of the movie--I think she said his name was Peter something----a pack of cigarrettes....God i loved living up there
