Tom and I just got back from a 2000 mile Yellowstone trip. We did good and I ended up taking about 1500 photos with my new Canon 7D. We got elk, black bear, griz bear, moose, ruffed grouse, blue birds, and a few landscape shots. We'll post shots in here as we get them downloaded and as time permits. I was only half way through my Canada shots and now I got more work to do... :bash:
This was a rutting pronghorn we ran into this morning. I thought he was bigger than he was but he was active and photogenic.

The best landscape shot of the trip happened when I was coming home. Anyone in eastern WA can attest to the amazing sunset we got tonight. I was in Ritzville when I got this shot with about 400mm of lens. I don't shoot landscape shots with a telephoto but this required it. I didn't even notice the wind towers until I downloaded the shot onto my computer. Not one adjustment made to this photo other than a light sharpen. Truly an amazing sunset.

More to come from Tom and I...

Very cool pope. Can not wait for the rest of the pics.
-
You guys are too good! Your pics are amazing.
-
I can't wait to see what you guys came up with. I am loving that antelope pic. Ghostly.

Here is the reason why you got that fantastic view/sunset:

It can be seen literally from space. Awesome, you were in the right place at the right time. In fact if you had been a little earlier you would have been forced to stay in Spokane as I-90 was shut down for 18 hours...

Can't wait to see your excellent pictures (as usual).

Oh you know how to get people excited, two weeks from going for Antelope and the first picture is of a shooter.... Can't wait for the rest..

That NASA photo is very cool. The detail is extraordinary.

We ran into some blue birds one day. Tom let me shoot a few out the car window.

We ran into some ruffed grouse. Tom was really excited and we shot them for a while. It was a good opportunity.

We were driving down the road and a couple of cars were stopped. They said there was a moose. Then one ran across the road and I gave chase. I ran after this guy and he wouldn't stop. I decided to give out a cow estrus sound and he stopped. Huffing and puffing I took a couple quick pictures.

We ran into a nice griz on Dunraven pass. They were eating frantically trying to fatten up for the winter hibernation. We had this guy at about 20 yards for about 45 minutes.

Hey, you broke the Cardinal Pope, no pun intended, rule. There are no eyeballs in that last pic :chuckle:
-
True true. That's one big behind huh? I think that bear won't have any problem this winter.
-
Sweet pics. I like the tones in the first one, almost looks like a painting.
-
Great shots...as usual from you! Looks like you had a fun trip.
-
Very Nice Shawn! Thanks a lot. That bear butt pic is Great!
-
That bear butt is great. I love seeing photos that I would never imagine being that enjoyable, turn out to be a favorite later on.
-

Oh, boy - I've got to get to work on these! I'm still not done with my Colorado pics. Hopefully I'll get to my Y-stone pics soon and get some posted up here.
Great snow in that Pronghorn image, Shawn. I'm glad you knew where to find 'em.
-
Skyval, Hornseker - I just did a little cleaning to keep it devoted to Tom and Shawns photos, or comments pertaining to this thread. Sorry to add to the confusion. :chuckle:
-
;)
Cant wait for more pics Guys!
-
That Griz looked like he was "sizing" you up...for lil' bite to eat :yike:! Keep them coming guys.
-
Great pics!!!! Thanks for posting them!!!
-
Bear people, is that griz a boar or a sow? I wasn't too worried about the griz attacking, I had bear spray and I was banking on the fact that I could run faster than Tom... :chuckle:
-
I am guessing Sow...but that is a guess, based on the face (kind of long) and the arse. Great pics guys...what a trip it musta been.
-
It's hard to tell if that's you or the Bear in that last shot Shawn! :chuckle:
-
I'm pretty sure its a sow. Though Mray might be onto something :chuckle:
-
Tom and I thought sow as well. It had to be a 500 lb bear from what I could tell from my uneducated bear mind.
What about this black bear? Seems to be a decent one...

-
Ya...thats a big one. Nice pics as usual Shawn!
-
Great pics! That blacky is a fat one.

-
Wow Shawn! Incredible pics once again. I am so jealous of your grizzly shots!! I wanted to find a grizzly so bad when I was there. Keep them coming.
-
Great captures Shawn, they carry through all the way to the "end"!!!!

-
Big ol blackie!!!
-
I finally got a chance to download a card from the trip!
Here are a few of the elk pics, along with a snow-covered blackie we saw up on Dunraven.
I'll get more posted here when I get thru the Griz & Grouse pics.
-
That bear is huge Pope...just a fat *censored*....
That snowy black is awesome Tom!
-
I love those girzzly pics! Great pics all around guys!
-
Great pics guys!

Tom, we want you processing photos 24/7. No excuses. :chuckle: Love the photos. The symmetry in that second elk photo is fantastic.

-
Tom, we want you processing photos 24/7. No excuses. :chuckle:
So sorry 'bout the extreme delay in getting more pics posted here. I know you said "no excuses", but I have one anyway. I had some extreme computer issues with my photo software, and wasn't able to get things all straightened out until yesterday. Enough about the excuses - now here are some more pics from the trip:
-
Great shots, Tom. Thanks for adding more to the thread. 8)
-
love the bear head shot...the way the hair parts is awesome.
-
That first one of the bear is incredible!
