So, I am returning from IRAQ the end of this month (actually, the day before the modern east side elk opener) and the wife just gave me the go ahead to order some new binos. She said what ever ones I wanted, but this was it, never again (I been beggin for a pair of Swarovski's), but I am having a hard time trying to figure out which ones.
I will be using them for everything.... deer, elk, bear, you get the idea.....
Help me out guys.... I dont really know what power to get.

i've got the leica duovids and love em. use the 8 power for searching and the 12 power for a closer view. will never buy another set of binos for the rest of my life. highly recommend checking them out.
-
If u are gonna stick with Swaros then I'd get the 10x42. The Leica Duovids are dern nice to, but I think a little more money as if Swaros arent enough already.
-
I have 10-50 SLC's I wear them around my neck with the bino system, they are a little heavy, when I got them the EL's weren't out yet. I would probably go with the 10-42 EL's to save on weight. Whichever I definately would get 10 power atleast. P.S. I am not a Leica fan :chuckle: :stirthepot: I just think they are a little fuzzy around the edges. I'd buy Zeiss or Stiener before I bought Leica. But Swaro's are definately the best :twocents:

HOLY CHIT.....them things are expensive, I never really looked at Leica's. I can just see the newspaper article now.... Military man survives 3 deployments to IRAQ and gets shot by wife for buying binos.

haha. i got mine for less than 1/2 off through leica directly.
-
Your personally choice....but 10x42 Els would be what I'd get
-
I'd go with Swaro's over Leica due to their customer service reputation.
That being said I don't know if I'll ever spend that much money on binos. I just loose too much sleep with the thought of losing or having them stolen out of my truck. My highest I'd ever spend cash wise would probably be an ED pair of either Vortex or ZENs.
-
I have the Swar 10x42 SLCs and, other than being a bit heavy, they're great. I got a really good deal on them otherwise I would have gotten the ELs, though.
-
check out natchez shooters supply they have some great closeouts that will save you big dollars seen some great deals on optics last night click on the closeout flyer

I have the EL 10x42 and absolutely love them. I went into a store fully intending on buying Leica's but after looking through all the big three, the Swaros definitely stood out! And ditto what Bean Counter said about Swaro's customer service. I've dealt with them once (for a pair of older SL 10x50 my dad owned) and it was first rate!

Just a little tip for guys worried about losing or having their binos stolen, INSURE THEM!! I scheduled my binos on my homeowner policy. Cost me $18 a year. If there ever lost or stolen or any other covered loss, I get a check for $2200 with no deductible. I sleep good at night!! :)

make sure you check with www.eurooptic.com american online store devoted to european optics. I know several of their customers.

Now, that's what I'm talking about!!! After my all expenses paid vacation to Balad in '05, my wife gave me the green light to pick up two ARs and a custom AK... gotta love that tax free and extra allowances!!! Have a safe trip home... and thank you for your service!

10x42 EL's. You will never be disappointed! ;)
-
I would either go with the 10x42 Swaro EL's or the Leica Geovid 10x42 with the rangefinder built in. I've looked through both while in the store "window shopping". To be honest when I have the money to buy them, I am not sure which of those two I would get.
-
Look at stieners 10x42 Predetor series. Damn good binos for a limited amount of coin. :twocents:
-
SLC'S ;)
-
After making it through 3x you shouldn't need to ask to buy anything ever. :dunno:
congrats and thanks for a job well done. I work with some guys who were in that place and have been told some crazy stories. I wouldn't want to live it for nothing. Thanks again. If I had the money I would buy you the glasses.

Surprised noone has mentioned the Zen-Rays. Aren't these suppose to be real good?
-
Shorty says go with the EL's ;)

Ok...............I mention them. Have the 10x43 ED2's....son has same. Definitely consider these at 1/4 the price of the Swaro's and Leica's mentioned here. Are the Zen's better than.........no...............are they close.....hell yes. I would rather buy an new rifle and scope with the difference. :twocents:

stick with the swarovski and then get a doubler best investment youll get and you dont have to lug your spotting scope around any more

Thanks for all the replies. Definately alot of good info.
Seems the X wants to fight for custody of my princess, I need every penny I have right now. But I should be able to get some by next year.

8x42 ELs or 10x42 ELs. 8x are more versitile and offer better light gathering. 10x if you know that you're gonna do a lot of open ground hunting and long range glassing.
Geovids in the same configuration are also a great option with having the range finder built in. Overall optical quality maybe a smidge below Swaro although depending on your eyes you may like the Leica's more.

I'd get the 10x42 EL's. Fo shizzle!!
