Title: Shopping Spotting Scopes
Post by: GoPlayOutside on October 11, 2009, 07:29:22 PM
I've been researching the high end spotting scopes for awhile now...I need to just pull the trigger.  I'm a high hunter...so I'm leaning toward the 65 Swaro's.  Where is the Best place to shop and buy for spotting scopes?  Online? Stores? Optic specific stores?
What did you guys pay for your spotting scopes?

ebay always seems to have a great selection of spotting scopes of all brands. Most of the time you can save quite a bit of money also. Just have to watch it and eventually you will get a great deal.

have you ever had any problems with getting bogus optics (old, broken, people that didn't take care of lense coatings, etc.)?

Never bought any of my optics off of ebay. The problem is most of it is grey market and then it does not come with the warranty. I would look at bear basin outfitters and cameraland, they seem to be the best on the internet. I used bear basin when buying my binoculars and spotting scope and they were willing to set up a package that met my needs.

Cameraland NY has some really good deals on Swaro spotters right now and Doug is great to deal with.  You might try checking out their website!

Until our ED spotting scope is out, I remain a big fan of Kowa for high end spotter.  ;)

From current schedule, we are looking at 2nd quarter of next year. The first one out will be 80mm.  We don't know how much it will cost yet until the product is finalized.  But our goal is to deliver the same outstanding price/performance as ZEN ED binoculars.
