When is peak black tail rut?
Thanks
-
varies a little but it used to be right during that late blacktail hunt Nov.17th time frame.
-
Don't take this personally, but I really wish you hadn't posted this. This topic bring's more "experts" out of the woodwork every year who tell everyone else how dumb they are and how much more they know about it just by being in the woods in their little knothole.
The "peak" can vary by area and depending on the weather, but as Skyval said it seems to peak in November.
-
we have the columbia cross mule deer black tail mix they seem to vary a bit end of oct threw mid novemeber depends on how cold it gets
-
Second week in November around here usually depending on a bunch of stuff.

ONLY Nov. 16. If anybody tells you anything different, they are WRONG. Just kidding. Dman's correct, somewhere around mid-Nov in my experience but I've definitely seen bucks with swollen necks in Oct. I talked to a Game Warden in MT once (about white tails) and he told me that he thought the peak was Nov. 11. Probably weather related and maybe day length.
-
I do not know what the peak is... But last year on Oct 31, I saw many bucks with their noses up a doe's ass or on a trail of a doe.

:chuckle: :chuckle:
I agree, I have seen rut activity in early October, always worth getting out then.
-
I also agree with Dman. It seems like it is usually in November sometime, but can vary by a couple of weeks. I've seen it as early as the last week in October and as late as Thanksgiving. I'm by no means an expert, but if you're in the woods when it peaks, you'll know it.

I asked a WDFW biologist about the timing of the rut in an email last year, and this was his response:
The rut for westside blacktails is pretty
well documented to happen between October 25 and November 10.
-
From my experience, i noticed that the blacktail rut is usually in full swing about the same time as modern firearm elk season is. But that could be because i'm hittin the brush more too. But its usually sometime in November.

Huh, who'd a thunk it.....

The buck I shot last year was on Oct 20th. He was chasing a doe and was all swelled up and stinky. I love it when they get stupid. :chuckle:
-
Buck on the left, October 17th, neck swelled to twice that size, stinking to high heavens.
-
shot this one oct 28th i believe. pretty rutty
-
Really nice buck, littlebuf. It looks like his neck is pretty fat.
-
I saw a bunch of blacktail bucks this weekend and none were close to rutting. They were still in summer mode munching in the morn and sleeping all day. I did see long guard hairs starting to grow for the winter coat though...
-
I've hunted the Skokomish unit the past 2 years and the Blackies were peaking rut right around Halloween. They were completely done before late archery and nocturnal again. In fact, on the recommendation of some locals, I hunted the modern season with archery tackle and got into rutting bucks. Heard its that way all over the Olympics.
-
i like it when it snows and gets cold in mid nov in my hunting spots, seems like that is the best conditions for me
-
Thanks for all the info guys.......good luck this year!!
-
I have a bunch of does that hang out behind the house in the marsh. Never see a buck with them until the last couple of days of October - and guess what's on his mind...... Of course no seasons are open at that time :bash: :bash: and then he's gone.

Looks like he has a sore throat to me??
I agree with everyone. Late Oct.-mid Nov. for the rut. In my experiences I feel as if the BT rut is a little earlier that of WT and MD. I always did good the last weekend of the regular season.. Right around Halloween. :twocents:
