Title: Wyoming through the years
Post by: EastWaViking on October 13, 2009, 07:33:18 PM
I scanned some of the old photos of Wyoming hunts I have from before the digital camera era.  So I decided to share them here.

Here are some of my Wyoming antelope and mule deer from my first trip in 1994 through 2000.
I didn't scan all of the photos, there are quite a few more doe antelope pics.  I switched over to archery in 2000 but took my first ever archery animal (antelope doe) in 1999 with my cousins old Bear bow.  Don't laugh at the tall hats, they were not that out of style then!   ;)

I'll add 2000-present later.... Now added at the bottom of the page.

2000 lope my last with a rifle, I tried to get one with a bow for a week and had to switch to the 300 Weatherby, I shot this one the first day of rifle, you can see I felt defeated.

it should be...or the trash!  An old bear bow, I think it was 40lbs and who knows what arrows I was shooting.  I shot that doe at 20 yards broadside and it didn't even make it all the way through!  It got me hooked on archery though!

took a couple years off, and went back in 2003 bow hunting only... ate my tag for the only time.  I figured out antelope spot and stalk hunting with a bow after that.  Here are more pictures up to the present, I left out a couple doe pictures here and there.  I think I've killed 9 bucks and 12 or so doe antelope through the years, and can't wait to get back there again soon!

EasternWAVIking...

After all of them hunts do you have general favorite area in Wyoming for deer/antelope.  I have been several times myself..just seeing if we hunt the same general areas.  Also the orange hat in previous photos..was that from hunter ed..I noticed the old WDFW logo..just curious.

Pretty much anywhere between Gillette and Casper is good.  That's where we've hunted the most.  You?

The hat was an extra one of my Dad's I got it after they changed logos.  He was a Hatchery Manager   (Cowlitz, Washougal, Yakima, Ringold, Shelton, Spokane)

It's our favorite meat, there's nothing better than grilled antelope tenderloin. IMO

Thanks for taking the time to post them.  You just officially became the authority of Antelope of this site. :chuckle:

We should start a thread to post our "old" weapons.

Great pictures.
When I was a kid in Wyoming, my friend's dad got an antelope every year and they always fed us antelope stew. Yummy!
Someday I'll make it back there and hunt them.

I was shocked to learn this as well.  My wife still fondly remembers the backstrap steaks I made for dinner while we were dating a few years ago...and this from a gal who cheers when I don't fill my deer or elk tag so she doesn't have to eat the meat. :dunno:  Those steaks were tender, juicy and delicious!
