I poated here because I figured it would get alot of hits . I have the clemans b sheep tag and I'm looking for a good spot to camp off 410 in nov . some where near Natches. Thanks coach
-
Oak Creek? I know thats 12 but its pretty close.
-
I might think about the Wenas side since 410 is closed and access issues. Barbecue flats...kinda popular in elk season. First week of November last of October.
-
Yeah I guess It kinda depends how you plan on hunting it. And whether or not you have snow.
-
I'm gonna hunt from the bottom , just got word from the bio that the rams are starting after the ewes and theres freash chick grass poping up low . I'm looking for a camp spot close to the hwy 12 cut off . then if we head up it will be in the mornings , I suspect snow and ice on the top of the ridge .thanks guys

oak creek or windy point. or as bone said bbq flats or also the camp ground by wenas lake
-
Not sure if you can camp there but maybe you could go to the place where they feed the sheep? Again not sure if its legal though.
-
Depends on where you plan on hunting :dunno:
If I were to hunt around hwy 12 then i would camp at oak creek.
If i were to hunt Clemns Mt. the i would camp along the Bald Mt road. There are some good places to camp up along the road to the flats.
If I were to hunt the North slopes or canyons i would camp arund bbq flats.
Hope this helps.

Its my understanding that most of the sheep will be kinda low on the south side of clemans , does oakcreek have a camp ground that would be close , I was also thinking of squaw rock if the road is passable . the first week of nov the bald mountain road can get real slick towwing a 28 ft trailer. the wenas side is a huge drive around . if I could get up the nile road that too would be a thaught. Any info on oak creek would be great thanks.

Oak creek is just a big parking lot (elk feed stastion). Park along the back of the lot.
Squaw rock is also a good choice.
-
coach, i think you can camp right there where they view the elk at oak creek. ive seen people camping in there before. would be close.
-
I'm gonna call sqauw rock today and see how the acess is , oakcreek might be my choice its easy enough , not like I'll be there much . just chain the hell out of my generator huh.
-
I live in the area and suggest go in and camp by the Wenas elk Feeding station.
Less people and nicer area. Close access to your area
-
I like the wenas side , but if i plan to hunt south side of clemans it a long drive ex if it snows .

Talked to the authorities you can't get back and forth from Squaw rock unless you have a drivers license with an address up Chinook. they are holding strong on the dike being LOCAL traffic only, NO HUNTERS. They figure the dike will last only about 5 weeks before it goes to crap. they want to reduce the load on it so only allowing Local traffic.
-
P.S. Yes their rut is starting to fire a little.

Why make a dike if it is only going to last 5 weeks?

Their trying to get the water out of peoples yards, houses and pastures. And off the loop rd as well.

I see elk hunters camped every year at the Oak Creek feeding station. If you want a fire it'd probably be out of the question though. Oak Creek rd just up from there has plenty of spots to camp right off the road. Heck, me or Bone would probably let let you camp in our front yards if you got nothing else. :chuckle: Good luck coach. Sheep hunting is a blast!

just herd that the hwy bypass is open to everyone, squaw rock is still an option to everyone if they want hook ups
-
Guess they closed it again today. I would expect with the forecast and predictions of the raise in river it will be closed this weekend. :bash:
