Title: Chris's Northeast deer forcast :)
Post by: TeacherMan on October 15, 2009, 09:38:52 AM
I just wanted to give a report for those of you heading East!!! With last years winter you would think we would be in for a hard hunting season but from the numbers of does that I have seen in the fields I would say we fared pretty good in the NE corner. Over the summer I have gotten good buck to doe ratios on my cameras and in my evening scouting trips my wife and I have seen several monsters. It has been an unseasonable cold fall. Its been raining really hard on and off for a couple days, above 4,000 feet yesterday I was in 3" of snow, our first snow was clear back at the end of September, snowed 3 times since then. I saw a 160" plus mule deer in the headlights last night with several does. The fog has been thick in the mornings and holding into the afternoon up high. The temps have been all over the place from 0-40 in the mornings and the leaves are almost all gone in my area. The river has already had ice on it to mid channel. The ground and brush is really wet making for quiet but soggy hiking. The moon will be going into a new phase on the 18th making it almost black at night, the deer are out moving during the day. To me this all makes for a great opening weekend to go kill a giant mule deer buck, wait until the late season for whitetails. I hope everyone has a great season, I'll wait until the rut in my area to kill a bruiser whitetail. I have a cross-country meet on Saturday  :bash:  :chuckle:

Good Luck, if anyone has any questions shoot me a pm

Chris

Good info.  We all appreciate it! I was just about to go check the moon phase but now don't have to.  I can't remember an opening weekend with cloudy dark nights..  Seem to always be clear and lit up by the moon!  :bash:

Really hoping that the combo this year has the deer moving more during the day!  Good luck to everyone!

So it rained a lot around my house this weekend, the fog stayed late, I wasn't hunting this weekend but I still saw 3 4pts, a 2 pt and a couple spikes  :chuckle: all whitetail. I hope everyone had good luck, I know the fog had to put a damper on some of the muledeer guys this weekend because of lack of visabiltiy.

we were up there during opening , seen 5 mule bucks , 2 shooters but got away before we had a chance , seen a couple white tail bucks too , we will be back in that area for the late white tail hunt ..

hey chris is your area better for white tail than near valley and chewelah?? , this is our second year hunting whitetail , my brother got a 3 x4 whitetail last year we have been hunting mules for about 10 years , and are now checking out the whitetails , my brothers buddy has a cabin up in valley on 10 acres near lots of public land so we get to use his place all the time , we are gonna be going up there probably nov. 12 for about a week , planning on doing some driving and checking out some new areas , wouldnt mind coming up near you maybe stop by and intro. ourselfs?
