Title: Food for the pack
Post by: MtnMuley on October 15, 2009, 03:40:43 PM
With the general just a day and a half away, what munchies will be in your packs for the days hunt?  For me, it's a small baggie of jerky, small baggie of dried mangos, 2 clif bars, and 20oz of water.  This does me well for the entire full day in the field.

Granola bars, jerky, Pay Day bars, string cheese and boiled eggs.  Protein, fat and sugar, keeps the fat boys going!

I am pretty happy with the latest refinements to my pack.

one ziplock of trail mix
one power bar
two GU energy gels (vanilla)
water

That will keep you going all day and many miles.

Man, I'm a way skinny dude and I don't like taking that little amount of food.  I think I'm burning off over one billion calories (at least my stomach thinks I am), so I take substantially more food.

Couple of granola or Cliff bars, sometimes Gu, baggie of almonds, a couple of sandwiches, beef jerky, dried fruit, a candy bar and sometimes an apple, at the minimum.

EastwaViking, do they give you sustained energy or do you experience a "crash" like some do from "energy" drinks? just curious. thanks.

I've never had a crash, and they fill you up too.  I think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Salami and PBJ sandwiches.  Heavy protein bars.  Trail mix.  Two liters water.  Beef jerky.  And, if I'm feeling really bad:  Snickers bar.

I'm surprised nobody has said "BEER". by the number of empty cans I find in the woods I know that it's a must have for some :chuckle:

I'll be bringing 2 liters of water, granola bars and maybe the pocket rocket and mountain house. Food is the only thing that can keep me glassing for hours.

:EAT: I take 2 16 oz. water bottles, 1 gatorade, bag of trail mix(the kind that has M&M's), small bag of jerky, and at least 2-3 SNICKERS BARS...I have to have my snickers to keep me going.  Always pack toilet paper, that way you won't need it...Murphy's law.
