Can anyone explain why the waterfowl season has a 2-day gap in it on the 22nd and 23rd of October? Doesn't make sense to me...
-
The feds put a cap on how many days the season can be open. By doing this they can leave it open later and have the last day on a Sunday.
-
Personally I think its to trick the ducks, they thing its over then BLAMMMMMM :hunt2:
-
its a conspiracy with the game department to get the wardens more tickets for all the folks that do not read the regs.
-
the gap is actually due to the 2 days that are used for the youth hunt in Sept.
-
Interesting... thanks guys. Kinda weird still... they could just open it on Monday. But I guess the idea is to maximize weekends.

no it is not. the youth hunt was there before the 2 day gap

If you want, go to your nearest calendar, Start on October 17th and count the days from there until Jan 31st. I haven't done this but common sense tells me you'll come up with 107 days, the same amount alloted to us when USFWS sets the seasons and bag limits. BUT, because they allow for a 2 day youth hunt in Sept, those 2 days must be removed from those 107 days. Doesn't make a lot of sense to open the season on a Monday so they drop a very useless Thursday and Friday off the first week.

i am all for the youth hunt and had no idea that is why they took the 2 days out i thought it to be for a diffent reason. i know better now.

just more crap from f and w
How is giving the kids a weekend to hunt "more crap from the F and W"? Were those two days going to be your best days to try and kill a duck? From what I've seen on most of the boards, most of the guys can go out and not shoot anything any day of the week. I'd like to see them give the kids an extra weekend for deer hunting too. The selfishness in this sport is becoming too much to bear!

im all for the youth hunt. i think it is a great idea. im just sayin back when i was able to hunt the youth hunt there was no break in the regular season
-
They've had a break in the season every year that they've offered the youth hunt. I remember back in 2002 or 2003 when a buddy and I set up on a Thursday afternoon amazed that we were the only ones there. So we called another buddy to join us only to have him tell us about the closure. :yike:

Are we really complaining about a two day closure due to an early season that allows our young hunters a unique opportunity???

yes they were. the youth hunt is one of my favorite weekends of the year. Even when my son is too old to hunt it I will still find a kid to take out. Like these idiots were going to shoot anything on Oct 21 and 22nd...
-
Boo... sorry to hear that if it is the actual opinion... If i have to sit at home and spend time with my family/girlfriend instead of hunting due to a two day closure... I don't even know! There is 3.5 more MONTHS of hunting season left open. Should we really complain because they skipped two days to include the youths that we should all be teaching how to hunt in the first place???
-
Those are the best 2 days of the season! :P
-
as far as my better half is concerned... yes!!!
-
Actually the two day break is to allow time for me to clean all my ducks, they really stack up... :P
NO Actually actually these are the best two days to hunt, all the skybusters are at home....
-
yeah now that i know why it is there i am all for it. i never had any idea there was a set amount of days they could set the hunting season for. i have taken 4 new hunters out in the last 3 years during the youth hunt and all have got their first ducks as well. my original comment was about fish and wildlife taking away hunting days to just limit time in the field. kinda like with our cougar hunting as well.

They should do a gap on the snow geese. And open another 2 week season in February. That would be a kick. Give them about 2 weeks between the close of seson and the openner again. It potentially could be a good shoot. Maybe it would also help push them north and give the farmers some relief.

Here Here! good idea ;) It wouldn't be a full blown conservation season, but it would extend our bird hunting in WA.
