I have my grandpa's Remington 721 in 30-06 that was made in 1950. It currently has a Bushnell Elite 3200 mounted on it (that I added). I am thinking that I want to put a scope on it from the same era as the rifle was made (1960s is ok). Doing a little preliminary research is pointing me towards maybe Redfield or Weaver. Any insight on makes and models as well as what to look for would be great. Thanks guys.

I think a weaver k4 would be about right, look at Lyman also

I wonder when the leopold 2x7 came out. Sure a great scope

I have my grandpa's Remington 721 also. It has a Weaver K4. Grandpa killed a few elk with that rifle.

I think the Weaver K4 would go well with that rifle to give it that "vintage" look.
Personaly I dont care for the weaver scopes on a rifle thats going hunting, I prefer a leupold 3x9.

I have an old redfield 3x9 on my 1965 rem. model 700 270. Back when redfields were still pretty good scopes. I love it. 8)

I would probably go with one of the old Weavers just to keep it period. If it was going to be my primary hunting rifle it would have to have something more modern. Probably a Leupold 2.5 X 8.
Ran into an old guy in Montana last year hunting by himself that was carrying a mod. 721. If I remember correctly he had owned it since new and had recently had it reblued and the stock redone. Something about sending it over to an antique furniture place in the Portland area and they stripped it and put it through a process that popped all the dents out of the wood. Can't remember exactly what that process was but it was pretty clever. Wish I'd listened closer. He then went on to refinish it with something like 21 coats of Linspeed or something.
Anyway, it was a beautiful rifle with a lot of history for that guy and sure impressed the heck out of me. Don't know why I didn't take a picture of it, wish now that I had.

Here is a picture with a 4K. The sling of course is not the original, but works better than the old leather one.

the first 30-06 i hunted with had a 3-9 redfield on it.

Made in 1950, that 721 would have come with iron sights. If you really want it to look period, then put the irons back on it, then mount a Weaver or older Burris. I think the Leupold 2-7x30 was a 1970's scope.

My old 721 had a Lyman All American 4x on it forever.... Miss that scope...

The rifle did come with irons, which have never left the rifle. It's looking like the standout recommendation is the weaver k4.
