Title: Stormking

Anyone been stomping around the Stormking unit here in the last week?  I'm entertaining the thought of doing a morning hunt.

Stormking unit is in real bad shape.  This has been the worst season for amount of deer seen that I can recall.  I've talked with several guys that are big buck killers, and they aren't seeing deer.  Even the boys going in Murry aren't seeing much for deer activity.  The state needs to do something.  Heck maybe even close it down completely.

I'm with ya on this one, places I'd see 10-15 deer on a walk I might be lucky if I see one.  I truly believe that the combination of the hair loss disease, huge population of cats and  the tough winter we had last year has really hit this particular area hard.  I've got a few trail cameras that I keep out year round and last year I had a ton of deer  pics, this year I've gotten a few dozen pics.  I'ts got me concerned...

The cougar population is up in a lot of the gmu's in that area and up north from there.  I talked to a wdfw officer in the Mossyrock just across the highway at the south end of Stormking and he told me about a lot of winter fawn kills they found.

2 years ago i went up to the mount tahoma and saw 12 bucks in a series of cuts. This year i went up there and saw only 2 deer. Buddy went up there last week and talked to a logger and he said he hadnt seen a single deer in 2 weeks

Well I burned some calories but that was about it for the morning hunt. Got there a little late but lucky that I speak pretty decent Spanish those guys that cut the tree limbs gave me a ride to my spot about 2 miles in all up hill.  Glassed all morning til 11ish, and didnt see one deer. Some decent tracks but that was it.

same observation here, opening day we saw a doe and a fawn and 1 bear and that was hunting all day, we jumped a cuple others but it's not good at all, I know the cat and bear populations are sky high where I hunt the Stormking unit.

Over the years I've seen less and less deer around the Morton area. Lots of cat tracks, fewer deer. Then again, my areas are getting overgrown and hard to see them, but still seeing less sign too.

Ya I have hunt the same area of Stormking for the last 7 years.  I used to see deer every single time that I was in there.  I think last year was the worse yet, until this year that is. I'm gonna lay off until late season and if I dont see some decent deer then, I will have to find a new deer hunting spot.

Talked with a buddy that hunted in there yesterday and he didn't see a deer.  He is one of the better blacktail hunters I know.  He did find a cougar kill and several piles of scat with hair in it. Now this one will be hard to believe, but he swears on a stack of bibles that he heard a wolf howl twice in the bottom of the basin.  Another buddy was with him, but a few hundred yards away.  He heard it too.  I've heard about the some loggers seeing wolves up on stormking not too long ago, but threw it out.  Now that there has been confirmed kills south of eatonville.  Well it makes me wonder.

Hey Stormking.  I don't know if you had a chance to read the last post from Salmonslayer1, but it accused you of poaching.  I don't now who you are, but I truly hope that this might let you know that all is not what it seems to be.
This is in regard to your postings to the Poaching in Ashford.  We have not, never will poached, my father would roll over in his grave.  There are always two sides to any story and if you would like to know who we are and what our story is, please contact us and I would be glad to fill you in.  My name is Jeannie Evans, and it has been a nightmare.  We are working on it and I know things will be better, but now you have been pulled into it.

I think you are confused this post is about a unit and not a member, stormking unit not stormking member.

Every year there is alot of spikes shot out of this unit. 2 point or three point min on the whole west coast. I have had dreams about this. The older and smarter deer would be harder to hunt but the quality of animals would be awsome.

stormking doesnt have the deer it had 5 or so years ago, and now you have cougars over populatin the area, and the best part is now you have assnuts cutn the gates and taken there sorry ,lazy asses inthere at night, i believe they need to close alot more areas and make people walk in and keep a better eye on those areas and give us the right to shoot the *censored* out of there rigs if they are in there illegaly :twocents:

What gates are being cut open?  Haven't noticed that on the southwest end.  Definetly a lack of deer though.

I only notice tons of ATV and dirtbike tracks going around the gates and blazing their own trails.
