Hey everyone, Ive been gone for awhile to Utah and when I got back I took off for my Moose hunt. I drew a Selkirk permit and was thrilled. I've been trying for a permit for ever and when I was notified I couldn't have been happier.
Didn't get to leave until the 10th of Oct. so missed the first 10 days. My brother came up from Grants Pass to go with me. We knew pretty much where we wanted to hunt as we had went over in early Sept. to do some scouting.
Saw Moose most everyday but not what we were looking for. After a week we knew we were running out of time and we were seeing less Moose, with only two weeks to hunt we started getting serious. we saw a couple of respectable bulls but not what we wanted. Then on the 16th we saw a big boy, I watche dhim go up over a rise and start down the other side. I took off around the back side to cut him off and hopefully get a decent shot on him. As I circled I didn't see nor hear him any where. He haden't crossed in front of me nor washe standing on the rise. I was baffled. Continuing to search for him I came upon an older hunter who was turned around and was not sure where he was at. He had not seen ant moose either. I'm guessing that the big bull winded the gentlemen. I started back to the road along with the genlemen who was turned around. LOng story short the moose after getting to the other side of the rise turned went down the rise a ways and went right back where he came from. Never saw him again. Next day while hunting the Lamb Crk. area I took my Moose, not the big boy I was hoping for but respectable. 37 inch spread and in prime condition. What a thrill I was just a little excited to say the least. My brother said I was out of control,(he can stretch the truth a bit). After getting him taken care of and back to camp I paused for a few minutes and looked at my brother and told him I was a little disappointed, he aske dme why and I said it's over I've waited so long and now it's over just like that.
It's a hunt I will never forget and it was the best hunt Ive been on. The thrill of a lifetime. Thanks Brother

Congrats on a Dandy. I know your feeling, got my OIL Moose this year here in WA. as well, and am now contemplating just what other states I can start to apply for! Is a bit of a let down knowing you can never do it again here in Washington. Now thats not to say I wish I could go back to just hoping someday I draw! ;)

Good job and nice bull ;) I know what your saying, I shot mine last year on day 4 of my hunt. After months of preparing for the hunt and the rush of the kill it was over. But the fun I had getting him with my hunting buddy will last for a life time. Again good job. :)
