Im looking to shoot a blacktail and would be willing to trade a mule deer hunt for a blacktail hunt next year.
-
what details you got about the mulie hunt?
-
Private Ground with lots of deer
-
Do you bow hunt or rifle hunt?
-
what size of buck would you be willing to shoot?
-
to answer bearhunter's question i rifle hunt. and as for the size of a buck to get, ive never shot a BT before. i dont want a little spike but i am not gunning for a huge B&C buck ( although I wouldnt mind :chuckle: )
-
PM sent.
-
I'm thinking about heading back to Washington next year for Elk and Deer? Know a couple of ares that might hold some good BT bucks. Going to take some work to get back into where they are. If you up to it, shoot me an email or PM.

I found the hunny hole for nice Blacktail bucks, I have photo references of bucks taken in the last few years by me, my family, and friends. I'm interested in this, would like to learn more. If its something worth doing I'd even be willing to come through on my end first. Nice Blacktails are harder to come by than mulies. Of coarse I can't guide, that wouldn't be legal, but I'm always down for another good hunting partner.
-
Just a note, not sure of your conditions but its all walk in. Own a bike, ready to hike, and be comfy about taking long pops. Not always but we've busted them well over 400 more than once. Let the road hunters bag the spikes and forkys, they all eat good but something about that extra bone on the head makes them taste that much better.

OOH, I want in on this race! Here's a few from the last two years and have many more pics like them for my resume. Been thinking of starting the same thread.
-
I recall seeing that resume before!!
-
@ 3nails, Them are some bucks! There isn't no trophy like a nice Blacktail. Thanks for showing those pics, wish more people would post more pics of blacktail, tired of looking at whitetail, and Mulies. Although I can't say much because I can't figure out how to post mine off my phone yet. Keeps saying downloads disabled, can't figure it out.
-
Hmmm.....no reply. Better start chumming.
-
No bites yet!
-
yeah I think this race is over :chuckle: :chuckle: Nice bucks ...love seeing big blackies more than any other deer ....

Them are some dandys for sure, spur_ride must not want a Blacktail that bad! Although I noticed this forum is from 2009. Too bad, he better jump on it. lol

@ bowhunter, I'm going to have to get at a computer and try posting the pics, my phone won't let me. Those bucks he posted are some hard to beat bruisers no doubt, not in a competition here, just was saying I could guarantee spur_ride a good buck. I've got some nice bucks to show as well, their all west I-5 bucks no benchlegs.

Hit the high country when you can. There is absolutely nothing stopping you from doing the same.

wouldnt know where to start is what im trying to say :dunno: :bash:

Just have to look at some maps and go hiking. Tons of high country out there.

Here is a picture of my blacktail from a few years back. Modern Rifle....scored 137.

@ WAHunter not sure what timber companies there are in your neck of the woods but the main one here where I'm from is Weco. Anything drivable gets pounded so hard I swear they need to start putting up traffic signs, you may get lucky getting one this way as I do with my wife every year because she's not into walking plus I take the kids, but for me all walk in areas is where its at! Less hunting pressure, better buck to doe ratio, and more mature bucks. I would find out where your walk in areas are, find a high spot where you can glass down into about 10 foot high jacks and wait for one to pop out in an opening, one WILL slip up for sure.
-
thanks for the advice! went scouting for bear sunday and no like but saw 2 elk(cows) doing exactly what you said! thanks again
