Well my hunt started yesterday so I took off for the day and went to check how the deer were doing...Ended up seeing some nice bucks. Located 2 that were really nice and one of those was really really nice!!! Got pics of one of em. Both 4x5's but just not wide enough for what im looking for! Ill update this post as the hunt progresses!!!
Would you have taken him on day 1 of your hunt???
-
Thats a good lookin buck, I might have been tempted to take it. Well see if I can hold out, my late tag is from 11/25-11/30 in the Alta unit.
Good luck ;)
-
Nope he's a nice buck but not on the first day of your tag! ;)
-
SHOOT!...
of course, I am not picky
-
What unit is your tag for? Mine is the Alta unit for muzzy
-
My dad has the Pearrygin tag but also drew a bull tag so we will be over there when elk is done. I think he would have shot that buck.
-
Back in the early 90's I passed on a huge whitetail during a late permit hunt in the Blues in the first few hours of the first day of my hunt. This buck literally looked liked he had a small rocking chair on his head...4 on the beam most about 10-11 inches tall with good eye guards and a split of about 5-6 inches off the G2 on his left side. Without measuring would have definitely been 170 - 200 class. Had him tending a doe at 100 yards for over and hour and decided to let him walk as I wanted to continue hunting for at least 5-7 days. Son, who didn't have a permit, threatened shooting him while I was watching through my 10x70 Fuji's and he was looking through the scope. Biggest buck he had ever seen....me too for that matter.
Never saw him again, passed on two more 140-150 class bucks in the next two days and finally ended up seven days in to it shooting a nice typical 4x4 in the 130 class. Every time I look at the 130 class buck I took and had mounted I see the other three, and especially that big one.............who forever will be know in the family and circle of friends as the "*censored*" buck.......first word referring to me...lol.
Had four great hunts and 7 days of pure enjoyment in my favorite place on this planet, which is what it is all about. :chuckle:
-
That SOB would have been kicking in the dust, and I would have been the happiest guy on this forum. 8) I hope you find what you are looking for! I would love to have that tag, good luck!
-
Stick to your goals, if your looking for bigger you did the right thing! Good luck
-
figure out how the state can give me your tag and go hunt some blackies
-
If it's a rifle tag I would wait. If I was carrying my bow I would have tried to seal the deal.

Shoot the big SOB and hunt with a camera the rest of the 7 days. Problem solved.
-
It would have been hunt over.....
-
BOOM
-
No
-
What unit? Its a good buck, not a great one, depends on what you really want out of the tag.
-
I will be hunting hard from the 6th-20th and looking over what the unit has to offer. Hopefully with some snow it will help me out a little bit and move some of the big bucks down a little lower. I saw 6 other 4 points. Quite a few 3 points and lots of small bucks. I am holding out for a wide or trashy buck so hopefully I can make it happen. Good luck everyone!!! Justin
-
And again I'll say it ... with the tag you have NO ... I heard about the other one you saw so you know what I mean when I say THAT is the type of buck you should be looking to harvest with this tag ;) !!! Keep us posted, Good luck :)
-
:archery_smiley:
-
This early no, but later maybe, would like a different angle to see him though.
I'm with you hogsniper, i like my bucks a little on the trashy side..
-
I would shoot the hell out of him. But i have yet to shoot anything with my bow so the first thing thats legal is what im going for.
-
he is a nice buck like you said but i would of passes as well
-
Hey Justin,
Where do you plan on hunting> Winthrop side? I know some of Conconully is in that unit.
-
Spent many of long days in that unit during the late tag season. Pretty nice buck you posted, but you made the right decision. Don't be under the impression that there are numerous giant non-typical's there. If that's your goal though, I hope you fulfill it. Two years ago spent 9 straight days there and never found anything over 160" out of 150 bucks. You have a good tag, and best of luck! :)
-
There are better bucks in that unit, stick it until the last couple days before dropping that guy.
-
Good luck.
-
if you have 2 weeks to hunt that unit on a late tag i think you made the right decision.
-
Its a nice one for sure.....but its still early. Keep on it and find one you really like.....you can always shoot a regular ol buck on the last day if things don't pan out on the trashy side :chuckle:
-
Just got a text from Justin. He ended his hunt with a 26" 4 point. I will let him fill in the rest.
here is a cell phone pic:
-
Cant wait for the update.
-
That looks like a good buck from the cell pic.
-
Shezzam Sgt Carter!!!When you don't start hunt'in 'til 45+ you aren't so particular. Good Job Justin!!!! Now I won't be able to get my nap!!!!Doggone addrenellin!
-
looks like a nice buck congrats to him
-
Well as you see my hunt is over!!! Tried to hold out but after glassing a lot of bucks, it came to an end yesterday! I did see some awesome country, lots of nice deer and met some great people. Thanks to all who helped out with my hunt. You know who you are. I hunted 5 days and this is the best buck I saw. Shot him from 180 yards with a remington .280. Did see a 30" buck which I tried to kill and Im now glad he outsmarted me, but he didnt have half the mass or height this buck had. Well here he is...Waited 11 years to kill him but it was worth the wait!!!
-
I got lots more pics just have to upload em onto the comp. Take care and good luck to the rest of the late tag holders!!!
-
Great Buck....congrats!!! That is a heavy horned sob.....would rather have mass then width any day! Good Job!

*censored* :)
-
Good buck. I'd take a wall full of those. The Elmer Fudd hat rocks. I have one just like it. Its my good luck charm but I get *censored* from whatever camp I am in. I tell them they are just jealous. :) Between college and taxidermy bills you gotta be broke.
-
Lol, it would have had to be the last day to shoot the 4x5. And come on buckmark she reads the forums a lot...When I get older I might!!! Lol
-
Ah money's for spending!!! Just gotta work enough for the next hunting trip! Lol Yea the hat is pretty funny, she's always cold so it helps out a lot. There's another up the twisp river somewhere's that she lost so she had to replace it before this hunt!!
