Title: DBake Trail Cams
Post by: DBake on November 02, 2009, 12:13:34 PM
Bought two Moultries D-40 two weekends ago, so the wife I went out and set them yesterday. Can't wait to go pick them up and see what is or isn't out there.

I could not wait any more the pops and I went out to check the cams I placed last Sunday, it was a wet one. We came to the first cam and was immediately disappointed, the apples I set out were not touched. Checked the cam and just two pictures one that the shadows maybe set off during the day light and the second was a blurry night shot like something running by. We left the cam and the apples see if something happens this week. We moved along the tree line and came up to the second cam I set, again the apples were not touched! Check the cam and three pictures were taken, the first was a shot of the area. At this point I start cursing, hit the arrow on the camera to view the second picture and bam! My first trail cam photo! It is the doe in the first picture below. Saw the second pictures and instantly started pumping my arm like I just made a hole in one. After reviewing both pictures we decided we should cut the apples in halves and spread the out a little, see if it improves chances though a little research. When we head back next week hope fully we see this buck again and a few more.

Great pics, it is an addiction now. Believe me I am. :chuckle: I suggest placing the apples on a trail and pointing your camera down the trail. Mark

Cabela's has Moultrie D-40's on sale for $79.99 right now. I got mine when they were $99.99 and had them price adjust so I got back $40 and change.

If I was a betting man, I'd tell you that those bucks are tending does or a doe right in that specific area.  I'd have a stand in that spot very soon.  Also, keep track of any daytime activity in there.  Nice pics - you're hooked now I'm sure!

I sure am. Will head out there once more next week then it Thanksgiving and time to hunt. Move my first came that wasn't getting any pictures about 50 yards up the trail from this camera getting all the action. Hope to start seeing some patterns.

Don't get your hopes up on patterns, especially during the rut.  Expect activity randomly, and at anytime throughout the day.  Just the nature of the beast.  Stay at it and you may get a crack at one of these bucks, or a buck you had no idea was in the area!

I found a great area torn up with wierd rubs and wanted to get my cam on it...checked my D40 at the house..cam right on worked fine but said bat life like 31%...  an hour later its tied to the tree and wont damn turn on :bash:

That afternoon I carry all new fresh from the store batteries in...  still wont turn on...grrrrrhhhhhhh

Id be addicted if I could get it to work a lil more reliably

great heads up on the 79$ sale...maybe 2 or 3 more are in order?

mmmm

On both of my cams battery life is doing fine, one was at 70% and the other 75% after two weeks.

Where are you located?  I have lots of stands and would be willing to help you out depending on the property/situation (as in - don't want my stands where they are easily found and can get stolen).

Yesterday was a pretty *censored*ty day.

1. Sat from dark to dark didn't see or hear anything.

2. At the same place I was hunting my trail cam was stolen. Some time between Sunday after noon (last day of deer) and yesterday (Muzzleloader Deer/Elk). If you guys could keep an eye out for a like new Moultrie D-40 with a 4gb black SD card and durcel batteries and let me know of anything.

3. The gun I had on hold at Sports Authority was sold to some one else.

Sorry to hear the bad news!!!! This is common news anymore.  I bet at least 1x per week we read that someone has had a camera stolen.

If you look around the classifieds someone had some nice home made security boxes for sale. Might be a good investment.

I have 5 cams that I try and keep running and really need to get some boxes on them.  :bash: I'm playing with fire I know it.

Was planning on getting some box after Christmas with some extra money.
