Hey guys,
I was hunting in the entiat this year with my old man and we came across a couple whitetail bucks walking across an open hillside, I remembered in the regs that it was any whitetail buck but just kind of laughed when I saw it cuase i've never seen a whitey in there. I ended up shooting the smaller one (3point) but just was wondering how many of these there are up there? any thoughts. By the way, my dads gun misfired on the 4 point.

There are a few. Wea300 got a few on film on his raffle hunt a couple years ago.
-
There is at least one toad. ;)

In 06 ran into a 5x5 whitetail with two 4x4 mulies and a couple of does. I would have killed him if i had the chance. That was up mud creek below mt. baldy

i think someone posted a pic of some nice whitetail sheds from that area last spring?
-
we need to weed them out to preserve out muleys.

Great job. Too bad your dad didn't get the other buck. I hope they stay somewhat localized in this unit. :twocents:

I have seen them in 246 just off the border with the entiat. I am from Texas originally, and I would advise all Washington hunters to kill every whitetail in these muley units. Whitetails are very adaptive and prolific. They will take over the winter range and begin to edge out the muleys over time.

I'm with WArookie, kill all of them quick before they are everywhere! Damn things are like cockroaches. Way to take one out Guts!

I don't think the few whiteys we have can eat as much of the muleys winter range as the end of the year control burns that get away from the forest circus every fall. I'm just saying!
-
Your right Moparman but if you let the WT establish themselves they will start to take over and with their more aggressive nature during the rut when most of the Mulies are in the small area well I guess I'm just saying too. Seen more and more WT in the Wheat country over the past couple years when pheasant hunting where we only had seen a couple here and there 5 years ago.

As a kid growing up we seldom saw whitetail in the Okanogan anywhere near our property. Over that last 15-20 years the whiteys are really taking hold. We do what we can to keep them in check taking a couple a year from out place ;) when things work right. Anyone who has followed the deer in this country know what the whitetail will do over time. I would not be surprised to see them on the west side in my lifetime if the wolves do get them all...then again that may get them here faster :dunno:

Hate to share it with ya, but I have one whitey shed from Chiwawa....

The end of the year control burns are exactly what the mule deer population need whether they jump their lines or not! Not just the mule deer either. Just sayin!

Ice, I got a whitey shed this year as well.....same place as you most likely! I was also with a friend that shoot a big 5x5 right out of Leavenworth a couple years ago.....

Been a few there for years even before Garret's dad had his raffle tag. If the state was smart (their not) they would allow that to be a depredation or "B" tag for any white tail. But that would make sense and require an an additional line in the pamphlet.

Heard there were a few running around in Derby this modern season. Buddy reported seeing a nice 4x4 whitey but to far to shoot.

The whities will take over if ya let them. It's slowing growing in the Methow. I have relatives over there (Winthrop and Mazama). I'm 53 now and when I was a kid hunting over there we never did see a whitetail. Not to say that they wern't there on occasion. Every once in a while you would hear a local say that they had seen one, but for the most part they were non existant 45 years ago in the Methow. Now there are quite a few in the valley. They hang in the bottoms and almost all of that land is private and most don't allow hunters.

Here is the tread to the set of sheds I got last year!!!

In 2002 while hunting during the late archery, I sam a small Whitetail buck chasing some muley does......haven't seen one since up there.... :dunno:
-
i have seen whitetails in the entiat unit the last 3 years. this year 1 doe, last year 4 does, and in 07 a dandy buck. they were all on the same ridge. they are there. hopefully people will thin them out before they really take hold.

Ya, we jumped a few whitey does up near the top of Navarre where you cross over towards Oklahoma a few years ago last time we drew the Entiat tag.
-
We saw 2 whitetail does running with 4 muley does on top of Navarre last year during the late archery hunt.
