Getting ready to go. I leave Thursday morning and the hunt starts Saturday. The end of last week the area I am hunting got 2-3 feet of snow up high and started pushing the elk down to lower parts of the unit. The guide called me on monday morning and told me about his Saturday and Sunday scouting trip. On those two days he seen 120 bulls. The biggest ones were in the 350 range. he called today and said he found a Big bull. Who knows if they will stick around tell the hunt starts but it should be a fun hunt. Then I go from Utah to Montana to hunt Mule deer. I hope to have some good pictures when I get back. I will try and send Ridgerunner some text messages with hunt updates. I will see if he can keep people updated.

Rolled into town about a hour ago. It is 65 degrees out. Not to good. Melting a lot of the snow at the lower elevations. Going out scouting in about a hour. Going to look for some bulls seen earlier in the week. I bought a new digiscope thing. I will se if it works tonight. Suppse to cool down into the low 50s after today.

Just got back from scouting. Seen about 35 bulls tonight. About 6 or 7 shooters. There are four real good ones. We were not the only guys watching these bulls. So we need to be the first ones out there in the morning. The good thing is two other guys that were watching them can't hike to get to them ( we were about a mile away spoting them ) it's going to be quite a hike to them. Straight up and over the mountain. Will se how it goes tomorrow.
Here is a little side story. I am hunting the fishlake unit but we were in the Monroe unit spotting back across to my unit. The guy that is with me took me to the spot that spider bull was killed. About 5 minutes from were we were spoting from. I don't know how that bull lived so long. Wide open sage brush. He must have been in some dark hole hiding and finaly made a bad move and got shot.

Short update. I can't post any pictures because I don't have a computer with me. Only my little itouch. He is a nice bull. Not the one we were after. Only 23 permits for the whole unit and there were 8 people hunting the bulls we seen the night before. We did not expect that.
The wind was crazy this morning and they must have smelled the dumb asses that came right up from the bottom with a 20 mph wind that was blowing right up the hill to the bulls. We went around the mountain and up and over the top. Let me tell you it's a bitch climbing over a mountain at 8500 feet.
The bulls ran up the hill right to us. There was 14 bulls in about a 10 yard circle. I don't know if we thought he was the other bull or what. But we had to decide fast because the other hunters were just about to them. I shot my bull at 290 yards. He is a heavy wide 5x6. I am on my way to Montana for a deer hunt. I will post pictures and a better story when I get home.
