If anyone is headed to colockum, look me up.
I will be on channel 7 on the CB tonight all the way to sunday.
Camped off little carabou past the mud. will need a 4x4 to get back there.
look for a black and red ranger and a lifted blue Toyota, that will be us.
its also a great camping area with Cell service, if you are heading up there give me a shout or call eight eight six, seven seven four one. area code two five three.
I hope we get our tags filled during the mid week when less hunters are in the area. i want blood on my hands soon lol! Cant wait to harvest my first animal. :chuckle:

well, no elk for me this year. but i had an awsome time except sleeping and hiking around for a week on a pinched sciatic nerve. :bash:
saw ALOT of elk, but being alone i couldnt glass the running herds and look down my rifle at thesame time so i missed a few shots i am sure, i couldnt identify a true spike at all so i chose to keep the finger off the trigger.
I almost got trampled by 6 to 8 cow elk running from my inlaws in the next ravine over though lol!
they came storming over the bank and i was like 20 feet down it going up, ducking behind a small tree i nearly crapped myself, none were Bulls so i only scoped them too after they nearly killed me.
I was already paranoid over seing Cat tracks when there WASNT any there on my way down Little carabou old road to the valley passed the red dot sign at the point..
we camped just before the water troff toward the end hoping to see the herds come back up the hill from the opening day stampede off the mountain lol
no bulls or spikes to be seen around there.
Got home to read a PM saying to call, sorry i didnt get the pm in time. Maybe next season i will be able to take you up on the offer, Thanks anyway spur_ride .
we drove all over the hill looking for elk after not seeing any and getting tired of hiking. tried to locate the herds and walk in after some, but nothing.
saw a few solo bulls, a 5x6 and a huge mulie Buck and a few white tail bucks. but no dinner spike elks to be found anywhere.

Whitetails in the Colockum?
-
no elks for me either. we were on the brewton.

Did you see very many elk up in the brewton and any big bulls?
-
saw a few gobs. and a big 6x6. good elk season, would have been better with meat hanging.
-
Whitetails in the Colockum?
yes, lots. not many sporting antlers though or we would have just stayed a few more days and had fun with them also.
big group of mommies right behind out camp the whole time we were up there.
-
there was some huge bulls up there this year for sure.
just wish i had a big bull tag lol!
I aimed at a few and said **POW**, it made me feel better knowing i had them in my sights and COULD have taken them.
alot of 5x6 and 6x6 big boys up there. not too many spikes to be seen though. no meat hanging was a bummer.
seeing ALOT of the Colockum area was awsoem though. not like Memorial day weekend when we stay near camp and shoot the heck out of our firearms at targets.
I wouls slike to get them Binoculars wit hthe built in camera, that would be a plus when i see so many herds and no time to pull out my camera from my pack.

No whitetails up there man.
But thats cool you had a good trip. Nice that you saw a lot of animals and big bulls. Hopefully populations will be better next year.

It's feasible that there are Whitetails up there. I've heard of Whitetails around the East Selah area. So it's possible. I'll believe them when I see pictures. But it's possible. I've seen Whitetails as far west as just outside Othello. So :dunno:

Its possible there are moose, grizzly, wolves, and even blacktail in that unit. I think he was mistaken though... We woulda heard something if there were suddenly a bunch of whitetail in colockum.
-
a blacktail has a black tail correct?
these had BROWN hair on thier main tail, and a big white butt just like a blackie. Unless some cross breeding has happened i am positive it was whitetail i seen.
only seen famale though, no bucks.
did see one HUGE friggin Mulie buck though. I aimed at him too and said pow.

??? There are no Whitetails in the Colockum but it is only a matter of time and there will be.
-
Whitetails do not have big white butts. The only white is under their tails, their actual rumps arent white
-
I've seen whitetails up in the Colockum before, driving through the game reserve up there and on the east side towards the river. my uncle took a whitetail spike ouf there years ago.

Hope so. Sure as hell no mule deer up there. :bash:

Why is everybody so quick to say "no there isn't any whitetails"? Man, maybe the guy did see one, geeeeez, you don't know every single animal that walks this earth and where it is, so just let it be, my goodness! On that note, I saw 2 bigfoot, a jackalope, and 48bison in the bear lake area

Not true. Their entire butt is indeed not white. But, a large portion of it is, whether their tail is up or down.

Phish,
It is possible that there is a whitetail or two in the Colockum. But I doubt very seriously that there are "LOTS". I have a forty year history of hunting and hiking in the Colockum and I have never heard of or seen a whitetail out there. Did you take any pictures? If you did it would be good to see them.
I will admit I did pick up a shed once on Blewitt Pass that sure looked like a whitetail... I suppose anything is possible.

I spend a lot of time in the Colockum. Wont rule it out, but I have never seen a Whitetail in the Colockum and would surprised and pissed if i did.
