Seems if I remember clearly a member or two had Desert A tags. Anyone hear of any bucks going down in the Desert? Id be curious to see what comes out of there this year.

Sidedrifter has been over there since the 28th. He told me some days he only sees a few bucks and other days he will see 20 or more. But he has not seen anything over 150 yet. I asked what he is holding out for, and he said when he see's it, he will know. Doesn't sound like he cares about the numbers, just the wow factor. He scouted it a few times this summer and right before season and said that he has been disappointed in the size of deer that he has seen in the desert overall. But i'll still bet he comes home with a HOG knowing him. I'll let you guys know what he gets (because he never posts). Maybe even a pic or two.

I have seen a few in the dirt. Beauty is in the eye of the tagholder. Both good representatives of the desert. Not what the unit use to be. :twocents:

Talked to sidedrifter again last night said he saw 4 4pts that would be in the 150's and 1 big 3pt that he thought was at least 29 inches wide. Maybe wider. He also said since he has been there, he has seen over 50 coyotes.
-
just wondering if sidedrifter has been on public or private
me and my brother will be over there with doe tags later this year
hope the trip went well and hope he got what he was looking for
never hunted the east side so this should be a fun trip
-
He is hunting public land.

seems like there is a lot of deer in the area i don't think we should have to much of a problem filling the tags.
only seen a few spikes and two points on the westside during the regulars season along with the does but for some reason i really want a doe over them being as i've entered for the doe tag for four years

Glad to hear he has standards for the unit!! I think a lot of guys only put in for that unit because their buddy's uncles brother's in-laws do and told them to. People that don't even know the potential or the area at all. Maybe that unit is on the down hill from years past but it would cool to see someone hunt hard and come out with a bruiser. Wish him luck!

I can report on 4 deer I have seen killed this year. Winston$%@#$, I can't remember his log in name took a nice 5x4 and his partner took a real heavy 4x4. I will let winston post his own pics and stories. I know they saw a lot of bucks with the rut going heavy. I saw a buck that was killed yesterday behind the house that was a bruiser. 28" inside spread, really heavy 4x4 with an extra dagger coming off the back of the base that was 8" long at least and really bladed. Really nice buck. I know a few other guys that are still in search for a real good one. Hopefully they knock him down this weekend. I plan on helping them out this coming weekend.

He said that he has been hunting really hard. He has been really surprised at the lack of big bucks. I think he has only seen one buck that was big 180+, and that was during the summer. It won't suprise me if he eats his tag if he can't find anything big.

He shouldnt be suprised. There are very few of the type of buck he is looking for out there. Lots and lots of 140-160 class bucks, like all the ones that hit the dirt every year. No problem with that but should not be a suprised.
I can count on one hand the number of "big" bnucks I have seen out there in my ventures.
Fun hunt though for a decent buck!

He talked to 10 or 15 people that have had the tag in the last 10 years. About half of them had killed some 180+ bucks in the unit. The other half were people that weren't serious hunters that drove around and mostly shot 140 - 160 inch bucks. He talked to a guy right before season that said he had seen a few 180+ bucks and one he thought would go over 200. He said the guy seemed pretty believeable.
-
i grew up right next to the desert unit and drew the tag in 2004 and still ended up not taking a real giant buck out of there, big bucks are not easy to come by in the desert unit but they are there(missed a 190+ typical)
-
things aren't looking good for sidedrifter! unless he can find a good buck in the next 2 days, he's coming home with a DESERT TAG. I'm sure he's a little frustrated this year, since he came home from Alberta with his tag as well!!!!
-
havent heard of any deer actually being taken
did anyone end up filling there tag
lets see one of these monsters
-
Heard of lots of bucks shot, seen a few. Sounds like all good solid bucks for the most part so far. Have not heard of any "Monsters" though.
-
did sidedrifter end up with a buck?
-
No monster but this is the buck that I took out of Desert A this year. Posted him about week ago. Taxidermist scored him at 167 and 6/8
-
Oh...and he was a 5x4.
-
sweet buck in my opinion
thats huge to me considering i hunt blacktails
-
that is a very nice buck you took out of their napalm, you did well on that tag
-
Thanks.
My biggest worry with that tag was shooting too early vs. passing on a buck that I would regret.
Very happy with this guy.
-
Heard of a missed opportunity on a 15X15 out there a couple days ago, would sure like to see that toad.

Hachhooo*censored*......there isn't even a hunter that can count that high :chuckle: Run out of fingers and toes at 20, maybe a few of us have 6 fingers and toes but that's still only 24.
Sorry Phool, couldn't resist. :chuckle:

-
Good job on the buck!

A 15 x 15... um wouldn't that be a thirty pointer. :dunno: :chuckle:
