Congratulation's! I drew that tag in '06 and had a great hunt! You just made me relive my hunt!

Pope, we put the tape on them both last night and they came in at 171 6/8 and 158 3/8, respectively.
Here's a L and R shot of the big boy.

Ok, so here's the story.....
We hunted from the top of Clemans on the Tuesday opener. We rode quads from the bottom of Milk Canyon and parked 11 miles from camp. It's no joke that the big boy was the very first ram that we layed eyes on. Initially, we found them bedded at 400+ yards. It took a quick peek through the spotting scope to confirm that he was a shooter (like 2 seconds) and we were on the move to circle around the knob where they were bedded. As we eased over the ridge for a shot, we found that 8 muley does were running interference on us. They had spooked the ram and his ewes and they were up and on the move. We kept moving down the ridge and were blown away to find the ram quartering away slowly at 30 yards. Our hunter put the first shot through his front shoulder and a second through the neck. Done deal. Here we were, ready for a 300+ shot and he gives us a broadside look so close that Coach could have stuck an arrow through him. I hope he kills a pig.
I only had Tuesday to help these guys out and couldn't stick around for the Wednesday hunt. That morning, they hunted from the bottom of the hill and looked at the 2nd ram for 20 minutes at 75 yards before deciding that he was a shooter. One shot from 200 yards was all it took and everybody cringed and held their breath as he rolled 13 times down the hill before stopping.
It was an excellent hunt and I was lucky to be a part of it.

Nice Rams, I am so fricken jealous, why can't i draw this tag :bash:
-
Love the side by side shots, really shows the difference between a great ram and a nice ram. Thanks for posting them up, I'd love either one, hopefully one day that tag is mine!
-
Cool! What a trophy and what an oppourtunity.
-
Outstanding rams! Congrats
-
 Outstanding!
-
That is so awesome :)
-
Awesome story 300short. I had been watching both rams and had sent a picture of the big one to coach telling him it would score 172. I guess I was off by 2/8ths... ;)
-
wow i can't stop looking at these rams
-
awesome pics....thanks so much!

You should have your Sheep Membership Card pulled. :chuckle:
Great job guys and thanks for sharing the story and photos.
-
Congrats to the hunters! 2 rams in 2 days, very cool. Awesome pic sitting next to each other. Out of curiosity, what would you age those rams at pope?

I'll take a stab at age and then let the expert weigh in....
We figured the big one is 6 1/2 and the other at 5 or so. And, yeah, Pope had this guy pegged at 172 from the get go. Um, pretty good.....I guess.
-
Ill take a look tonight but elkstuffer has his hands on them so he will know for sure. Ill post some tribute photos of these rams tonight. Ill say that young one had some attitude. Scoring is never 100 percent accurate and my goal is to be within 5". More to come.
-
I haven't put a on them yet. The getlemen just left. He's deffinatly going over 170. He is 7 1/2 years old and the other is 4 1/2.
I think a tribute would be nice Pope. I've been watching this larger ram for a while now. Kind of sad to see the old monarch down. :'(
Now I just have to break the news to Coach. :(
-
[quote He is 7 1/2 years old and the other is 4 1/2. [/quote]
That's what I figured. They're both beauties.
-
Congrats to the hunters! Fine OIL tag finishes!
-
I apologize to all about the quality of these images. My goal was to simply document the ram, not get good photos of him. A great ram with above average mass at 15.5" on the bases for a Cleman ram. Congrats to the hunter.
-
is coach hunting the clemans unit also? i thought he was but not sure they only give 3 tag away for that unit to adults and 3 to kids we have seen 2 of the rams is coach the only adult tag left that will be pretty cool to see all three rams out of that unit
-
Yes, Cleman. Plus the raffle tag took a Cleman ram.
-
wow was there any pics of the raffle ram?
-
Pope, those pics are sweet. Thanks for taking the time.
-
All I can say is.......awesome!!!!!!
-
Very nice rams! Thanks for posting the pics and story!
-
two great rams congrats on them . i'm pretty sure that the big guy was the one we pased the first day with the pics in the spotting scope , had him at 400 yards for half an hour , then he worked up the draw as i tryed to close for a bow shot the next morning he was shot about 1/4 mile up the draw , oh well I got to see at least 60 rams in three days one of the best hunts ever.
-
I compared the photos and it's not the same ram Coach. The one you had in the scope is shorter.
-
Too Cool.. 8)
