Title: traps arrived yesterday
Post by: rasbo on November 06, 2009, 04:18:58 AM
well got them in..they are 14 inches tall..I was thinking to short, but Bernie sent some pics with bobs in the trap and a young cougar.I will set them the 18th of Nov,and see if I can trap one..Prices are down all over, the forcast don't look real bright to soon either. If any of you nuisance trappers in the Puget sound area need a hand or would like to show a guy some ropes, that would be great. still waiting on lure..And waiting on the firing pin for my 22.It will shot shorts, hmm Now I cant find shorts :bash: :bash:

howdy Rasbo
I have a bit of lure if you can't get any maybe i can mail it.  In south tacoma there is Cascade trapping supplies ran by an old codger by the name of George Sovie.  He is a real caracter but really knows his stuff.  I think that your traps are on the small size as well but it is possible.  A trick to remember is to cover the bottom of the trap with dirt so they don't feel the metal grid. covering the tredle is also something that needs to be done.  Run a rebar stake down trough the trap so the wee beastie can't roll it over and get out.  I usually set the set so it looks like a cubbie set.  Take care and good luck.

PS  when i hit spell check on this your name popped up as misspelled and suggested Rambo.  Is there something your not telling us?

George is a great guy!  Really knows his stuff and real helpful.  Bought a 3 set of Yancy traps from him last year.  Got some lure from him too.  Me and BTKR used some of it last year.  We just couldn't get a cat to commit.

Rasbo I think your traps are to short to.  I was honestly told nothing shorter than 15".

Good looking cage.  Hope it works well for you.  Do you like that trigger?  It looks like it has a bit of travel before it releases.  You could also use another hog ring holding your mesh to the frame on the front.  You have a hog ring every four inches down the side but have an eight inch gap top and bottom.  I dont think an animal could escape but if they got an arm or head out it might tear them up a little.

cool I was wondering about a light stepping cat might feel a little movement before it triggered.

One of these days I want to get into traps, looks awesome. Not to jack the thread, I love building wrought iron stuff and those traps look like they might be easy to make. Maybe as really easy, but for me it looks like fun to try anyway. Anyone have insight on on building one? Or if it is even feasible?

I have never really looked at any so I guess I imagined them with more complex systems, not to down play them. IMO simple is sometimes better. Hmmmm wheels are turning now. Good luck with the traps!

It is really cool to see what everyone comes up with for designs on traps.  They all do the same thing but the ideas for how they work are pretty different.

I looked at some from yancy,he wanted 450 for 3 traps, they fit inside each other. He builds some with a guillotine door but didn't offer to sell them.I only want bob sized traps.I think George sells the three trap pack also.I will try these,my Ideal size in my mind would be 18 tall 12 wide 40 long. :dunno: I'm sure having fun getting prepared and thinking about it..
