Well I just got back to Montana this morning after a long 18 hour trip. Wann a start by saying, the trip was amazing to say the least. We got into Montana around 5:00 a.m. last Saturday. Got there and hunted that evening after unpacking. I was on a quest for my 1st buck. We were on a nice buck that evening but he never presented a good shot. The next day was a lot of driving and signing into some block management areas. We saw numerous small bucks everyday. The 3rd morning we were driving to a property we had permission for, and on the way there we saw at least 10 bucks in 20 miles or so. Three were 140+ class deer. Got to the property and the guys we were hunting with had bought doe antelope tags so we dropped them off in a field we saw antelope in. We drove not a half a mile and spotted some does within our hunting area. My dad and I got out to take a closer look and hopefully spot some bucks with them, and we did just that. It was a group of about 10 deer and 2 shooter bucks for sure. We put the sneak on them and my dad got all ready to shoot because they were out of my comfortable shooting distance. He decided to pass and see if we could get closer so I could have the shot. We waited for them to go over the hill and we made our move. We walked over the hill where they had been and we saw the deer bedded down not 50 yards from us. I snuck up and as soon as I got to a spot I could shoot from the deer took off. We backed out and went to pick up our buddies. They both downed an antelope. That concluded that day. The next few days we passed on a lot of deer in hopes the big boy would give us another shot. On Tuesday we spotted the same group of deer at about a mile and a half away. They were bedded down and we couldn’t make any stalk because of bad wind and no cover. We waited for an hour and decided it was time to make a move. We made the stalk undetected but the deer winded us as soon as we were within 3oo yards. They walked off and I told my dad to shoot the buck if he had a shot, well at 350 yards and a 35 mph wind he decided to pass so he didn’t make an irresponsible shot. We once again backed off on the deer. We came back to the truck to find my buddy shot his first buck, a nice little 2 point. The next morning we went to the property again and my dad’s buddy got on the big buck and shot him. We had seen many good bucks on the property so decided to keep hunting. Thursday My dad spotted a nice 3 point that evening and decided to put a stalk on him. Watched him for about an hour and decided it was getting late in the hunt and he would harvest this deer. 400 yard shot and dropped him in his tracks. Its now Friday and im the only one left with my tag. We got to a nice area and saw a doe with two fawns. Watched them for a while and saw they had a buck with them. We made our stalk and I popped over the hill to find the doe looking at me from 40 yards, and the two fawns right at the base of the hill 10 yards in front of me not knowing I was there. I searched for the buck for a minute and couldn’t find him. The fawns heard me breathing hard and immediately saw mw and ran. As soon as they took off, the buck stepped out from behind a small hill at 60 yards and I settled the crosshairs right on him. I let the .300 RUM do the talking. He dropped straight in his tracks… after a hard week of hunting, I finally got my first buck. I just started cleaning up his skull tonight so I could do a euro mount on him. Not a bad looking 3 point. I’m sure happy with him.

Nice first buck, hopefully some day I can make it over there all the stories of montana seem pretty amazing, congrats to you. ;)

That buck will probably mean more to you over the years then any other you will ever shoot. Keep hunting you will shoot bigger and smaller ones but that one will mean the most. It is really cool you got to be there with your Dad and a couple other friends, makes the hunt that much more enjoyable. Nice work.

here are the rest of the deer taken by my dad, his friend, his friends son, and myself.
my dads buck is on the very left, middle is the big buck he passed the day before and was taken by his buddy, the very right is my buck, the front is my buddies little 2 point (his first buck) and the two antelope they also harvested

There is $300+ in money left on the ground there. Too bad you didn't take the time to cape those deer out, great hunt though.
