Well was over east for the last weekend of elk. And I got to say that I am >:( Very angery. Was hunting the teannaway area. Had permission to access land through private poperty and got to say that what the hell don't these damn idiots understand about private no tresspassing, NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES. Was up in the hills an had quads an trucks up there. B.S. I don't care if your to damn old to walk go hunt somewhere else or apply for a disable permit. People can make excuses but when I hike my butt off to just have a quad come past me it's B.S.!!!!!!! If your 30yrs. DOES NOT INTITLED YOU TO RIDE YOUR $#@*&^^%%$$$ QUAD BY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get off an hike like the rest of us and if you don't have permission go somewhere else!!!!!! :bash: :bash:
-
x2 people need to follow the rules.
-
Amen!!!!
-
We pay through the nose for our gear an lic. and take time off work and plan these trips just to have people screw them up, No B.S.. Been hunting elk for yrs. now an still have not got one an the first time I'm on elk an looking at the chance to harvest my first it's screwed by guys no older than me! I'm tired of it. Felt like shooting their tires out, but then I would be the one to get in trouble. The gamys an cops don't give rats, well you know.
-
I am glad to see I am not the only one that has had enough with the quads and Jeeps not following the rules. I hiked in to a secluded spot in the dark by headlamp only to have 2 dipsticks on quads crosscountry right through where I was glassing right about the time I had elk working their way towards me. Of course they never saw the elk which quickly vanished into the timber. Saw several quads on the USFS roads in Milk Creek and Rock Creek where you drive by multiple really big signs that say NO QUADS! They can't all be illiterate can they?? Also got screwed by a jeep "road hunting" by driving out to the top of a rock ledge while I was trying to get in range of a 5 poing bull just below it(I had a tag) which promptly bolted.
We law abiding citizens are at a huge disadvantage to these jerks. People are just rude, that includes many of those we share the woods with.
-
Those people really piss me off!!! >:( Just because you can get your Suzuki samurai around a gate does not mean that you should. I had two little Samurai's crest a hill 150yards above me just as a herd of elk were coming into the clearing. The elk took off and I never got a good look at them :bash: >:( :bash: I have never been more tempted in my life to shoot somebodys rig :bdid: I am glad I did not do it, but damn I was mad.
-
The gamys an cops don't give rats, well you know.
Of course they do but there are only so many of them and there is only so much they can do without catching them in the act. Its not their fault, they are doing what they can I assure you.
-
I hate these ATV's!!!!
For all the above reasons.
Fat lazy pukes who ride them are slobs!
-
I know. I've shot deer, bear and birds an the one thing I want the most because I have spent countless days over years out hiking my butt off and the one chance I get to maybe get a shot off at an elk some yahhos drinking beer and trespassing urged. :bash: No there not pics of these guys should be good enough to write these jacks a ticket but they don't. Just liked the guy who shot across rigs in a parking lot onto private property at snowgeese on the ground and if I wouldn't have called my son back they would have shot him. Wrote them a ticket an didn't pull their goose cards like the law states, they were out hunting the next week. Screw the WDFW they take our money gives *censored*ty regs an don't do damn thing!! Let me be the warden and see what happens!!!!
-
Snow you are absolutely wrong in the gamies and cops don't care. That is total BS. Have you not looked around at where all the goverments are cutting funding .... they start at the cops. They don't have the time or manpower to deal with off roaders when they have people getting shot, drugs, and houses getting broken into. It is a matter of priority and reality of ability. Do you have any idea how much country, back roads, etc. that are to be watched and how many people there are to do it? Probably not and you would be shocked to know how impossible a task the few gamies and cops have. Then you mentioned that this was on private land correct? Well private land does not get police patrols!!!! That is the responsibility of the owner or the people using the land. Did you stop hunting to track down, photograph, or do anything to show who the person was or might have been? Did you call and file a report, if not how were the cops supposed to know of the violation? We all have to do our part. I have given up a days hunt to do just that, and will continue to do that in the future. We need to do everything we can to stop these jerks on quads, jeeps, and other motorized vehicles where they don't belong.
-
Snowman, Why not you STOP THEM :dunno: and ask them cant u read the sign? Get their Motorcycle # ? Have you tried Call Gamedept or Kitta County Sheiff? I am sure they will Come right away.

Yep did call with pics and lic plate of the truck and make of quads. No response from cops or gamys an yes I do know about all the cuts but I have called countless time for people exceeding fishing limits and bird limits. Yes the access through private property was to public land. There is alot of roads but when u call these agencies an they do nothing it is irratating. And it is not B.S. been around alot of places an seen unlawful activities and have called only to be told that there is nothing they can do when the gamys are sitting down the road in trucks. Just tired of turning around every time an these jerks getting away with it! You think they would do something after being called constantly to these areas an nail them as hard as they can. Guess I'm tired of working my ass off year after year an these jerks have no brains and think the law doesn't pertain to them. Look at how screwed we are getting losing land to hunt because of these morons. Tired of parking at gates an having to deal with all the other people parking there to as I know some of them feel the same. When you confront them they don't care and the cops didn't want to deal with it. But drive down into the town of cle elum an there's sheriffs driving all around town. Guess this is an unload session as I know there is whole lot of us on this site that feel the same.
-
Snowman, I personally know the local game agent here in the upper Kittitas Valley and he takes trespassing and road closure violations very seriously. I have friends, who he has known for years, that have been ticketed for having a Motor Vehicle behind a gate. Problem is, he is just one man and he has a huge area he is responsible for. Have to thank the higher-ups in our State government for cuts in enforcement as much as anything. I understand your frustrations though. Had the same problem during archery season, had a nice area with a few big bulls hanging in the drainage but every morning two old boys would drive up the old logging road in there very loud jeep and like clockwork the bulls blew out into the dark timber over the ridge. They would actually stop the rig, shut of the motor and rip a bugle before the rumble died off. Needless to say, they never filled their bull tag or even saw a bull to my knowledge. Of course, I ate my tag also, although I was very close.
-
I have had several hunts ruined by *censored* bags on ATV's/ Trucks, driving where they werent suppose to be. The only reason I see to use atvs to hunt is if you own the land, even if it is allowed it is still a half ass way to hunt. I spend a good part of the year getting into shape to be able to hunt these out of the way places and to see some lazy fat a hole role up in an ATV really pisses me off.
-
why don't you guys who hate the quads and jeeps so bad go hunt in the wilderness? Or is that too much effort? I agree they shouldn't be where they are not supposed to be, but whining about it isn't going to help. Go hunt in the wilderness where they can't go...simple.

Wish I could, due to alot of family obligations most of my hunts are half day or 1 day hunts close to home, its a long way from Kelso to any wilderness areas. I'm stuck in the Coweeman/Winston/Ryderwood areas with the *censored*bag quad riders. :bash:
-
:yeah:
Plus, a lot of old timers, folks in poorer health and/or any level of disability, heck normal hunters should not have to modify their hunt routine just to avoid guys who decide to break laws, IMHO. I do not wish to be chased away from any area I have the right to be in.
Whining, may be one way to get attention to the real problem. Call enough, and something may be done about it.
When contacting law enforcement, wildlife etc...you may always ask to be contacted regarding the complaint. This assures a bit more attention to your issue...
-
Up Rock Creek this year in 346 was unbelievable. In 5 days I did not see a single WDFW, National Forest Service or Yakima County sheriff vehicle anywhere. I know they are all strapped for $$ and personnel but at least make a presence.
-
I don't have a ATV and don't have a problem with them as long as they are abiding by the rules. If they want to ride on an established trail/road pull off and park them, THEN hike in and hunt I have no problem with that. Its the a-holes that ride them cross country into prime hunting areas into red dot area that really Piss me off. Nothing is worse than hiking an hour or 2 into a closed road area only to have some jerk ride up on ATV, that really gets my blood pumping >:(
-
WDFW passed alaw that says that during hunting season you can't have a rifle on your person that is bigger than .240cal. Why don't they pass a law that says during the hunting season if you have a hunting permit for that season (ie rifle tag during rifle season) you can't have a non-street legal vehicle up in the woods. That includes street legal dirt bikes. Problem solved. That way you don't encroach on the ORV groups rights to drive around. But it puts a damper on the guys who drive around gates. OR...................
INCREASE THE FINES. The current fines are pathetic. Jack them up to $5,000 and the confiscation of the vehicle. This would make guys think twice about driving behind closed roads and gates. It would also help the WDFW with their budget problems.
-
Norespeak Why should I go into wilderness when I'm hunting an area that is tagged with signs saying in big bold black letters NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES, WALK IN ONLY!!!!!!! Not to mention I hunt with my 9 yrs. old son and my wife. So now tell me why I should go to a wilderness!!! I think your missing the point. There is areas like the Moss's LK. ORV park and other ORV parks. They can go ride there and not to mention you CAN NOT ride any non street legal vehicles any where but ORV parks or private property and race tracks. If you think I should go more out of my way, than I think you got a problem. I walk miles in behind gates as well as a lot of other members here on this site and why should we continue to put up with it. B.S. I know of very few areas of National Forest Land that you can ride ATVs in. But I'm not going to sit here an have someone tell me to go to a wilderness area. The law is the law abide by it no matter if you agree with it or not. This is why all the land around my home got gated cause idiots riding there ATVs off the roads or going around gates. I say take there ATVs or trucks and fine the hell out of them an suspend their hunting privileges for 2yrs. or more time to come down hard on them. Auction their ATVs an trucks off!!!!!
-
I have no problem with people on quads riding them and parking and getting out and walking. but its when i walk up a big hillside only to have a quad come bouncing up the hillside and park next to me and ask if ive seen anything that pisses me off. or when they are driving around gates and think its just fine. those quads all deserve a bullet to the block
-
The gamys an cops don't give rats, well you know.
Of course they do but there are only so many of them and there is only so much they can do without catching them in the act. Its not their fault, they are doing what they can I assure you.
Agreed....100%. Most of the gamies are as irritated about this as we are.
-
im starting to see alot of electric mt. bikes with ranges of up to 40 miles this could be a great answer to accessing forest service roads and blm ground that is well roaded. these bikes would would be whisper quiet you could still pedal to assist the bike with steeper hills. especially nice for some of the older and retired hunters :chuckle:

Actually snowman you are missing the point. Call your local forest service dist. office. ATV's are legal on National Forest land. That means anywhere offroad they want to ride they can, they are LEGAL. At least on the Naches ranger dist. They are not legal on system roads on the national forest. On state land it's a different story. They are legal on green dot roads only. Oh and by the way, the forest service thru the National Travel Mgmt. Plan is REQUIRED to open roughly 30% of their road inventory to multiple use which includes ATV's. Don't misunderstand me, I agree that they should not be where they are not LEGAL, however, ATV's are the largest reacreational vehicle user group in the country and are backed by many huge companies represeting billions of dollars....they are not going to go away....simple as that.
I don't understand you argument for not going into the wilderness...your wife and kid can't walk? Mine has no problem hiking 3-4 miles into the wilderness to hunt. If they can't then maybe they should get quads to hunt off of.
As far as singling out ATV's that's your choice, but I see a lot of people doing stupid things that I don't like over here during all of the hunting seasons maybe they should all go somewhere else too? That would be fine with me, I'd have woods to myself... If you really wanted to get away from the ATV's you could...you'd just have to put in a little sweat equity.
-

Your right, you don't understand! my 10 year old son has CP and is in a wheelchair! but I'm sure you wouldn't mind pushing him in his chair as well as have his 8 year old sister and 4 year old brother tag along on an archery hunt 3-4 miles into wilderness areas.
-
That is why I bought a multi purpose bike. It is street legal and spark arestor for forest service and logging roads. But if it says NO motorized vehicals that means everyone.
-

Norse, had I more than 1-2 day hunts I might just do that. I already hike in behind gated marked for no motorized vehicles. What part of NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES is unclear?
This year I had the only weekend I could go Turkey hunting blown by some *censored* on a quad who was out shed hunting and MILES behind the WDFW NO UNAUTHORIZED MOTOR VEHICLES BEHIND THIS SIGN posting.
What is so wrong with following the freaking rules. Yes i took pics...yes the gamies got them. No I didnt get into gobblers again that weekend. I could hear ATVs both days...all shed hunters, all illegally in there.
-
Nores I don't care if they ride where there allowed. That's not my point. My point is why should my family and other fellow hunters and thier families go out of their way for people who break the rules. I'm like a lot of guys here, can only afford so much time before it affects my bills and other family obligations. Not to mention I can't afford to set my son and wife up with the gear that you need for back country. I go where they are not allowed so that's my point why should I go more out of my way. Would love to hear you explain to me why I should let the law breakers push me out!!!!! I'm not arguing about law abbiding hunters. You can put any spin on it that you want, rules are rules and laws are laws. And as I said there is some places that allow them, that's fine. I like quads and ride them. But I don't take them where I am not suppose!!! My point has been made!!!
I know of very few areas of National Forest Land that you can ride ATVs in.

I have read quite a few of the posts here and truly i believe it is you who does not get the point I do not believe he is saying that ATV's should be outlawed just that the riders should simply abide by the law and if they do not they should be dealt with harshly to make an example that this practice will not be tolerated any longer. It is individuals like them that have closed alot of roads and timber hunting opportunities to the law abiding citizens of this state. I understand his frustration and belief that the gamy's do not care when he sends them pictures of and the liscense plate numbers of individuals and they do nothing. I believe most gamy's do care but they are just like the rest of the population there are some who are just too damn lazy to do there job even when they are presented with enough evidence that there work is already done for them. EYES IN THE WOODS will only work if the info is taken seriously. Just my :twocents:

Hey J, I guess maybe next time when we are hiking past these fools we might slip in the mud and cut there valve stems!!!
-
Hey clearview hear ya on that!!! Seems to be we should give into law and rule breakers. Must be nice to have money an go all over hunting!!! :kneel: To the lawbreakers!!
-
Hey J, I guess maybe next time when we are hiking past these fools we might slip in the mud and cut there valve stems!!!
I've wanted to more then once, only problem is, I've never seen a quad rider get off his quad to do much more then take a piss.
-

I have and they get up there too >:(! and besides, why should we have to kiss their asses? Why can't THEY follow the law? :dunno:
-
Have to agree with Angus, Snowman, etc. Norse is way off base. :bash: No legal huunter should have to alter their behavior to accomodate butwipes.
People that don't follow the rules need to be stepped on like the cockroaches they are. I too have had many occasions on state and private land where I have walked in behind closed and sometimes open gates that had "No Motor Vehicle" signs posted only to find vehicles parked within sight of gobblers I had roosted the night before or ATV's blowing past me while I am hiking my bike up a hill..
-
I hear your guy's complaints but you all focus on what you can't change! Use the pressure to your advantage.... go into the thick and hunt... that is were the animals are. I love the E side but won't hunt there... I hunt the wetside and see less people stupid or otherwise... I used to love duck hunting public land, now i rarely do for same kinds of reasons.... We all wish we could wave our magic wand and make it right..... Change the things you can, accept the things you can't and use your brains to figure out the difference!
-
I do hunt the thick, I handgun hunt. But some times I like to go to a non motorized area and do a little rifle hunting. Why can't this be changed, are you saying we should be like the state and say...a lot of people are breaking the law so let's change it to were their not breaking it?
-
Brush Hunter "Why can't this be changed, are you saying we should be like the state and say...a lot of people are breaking the law so let's change it to were their not breaking it?"
Not at all! All I am saying is that people either need to do something about it or change their own actions. "Hope" Isn't a plan it's a pipe dream. :bash: Like most people my time in the woods is limited, I'd like to spend every weekend for 6 months in the woods... Because this isn't possible for me I've been looking for more QUALITY hunting experiences.... Private property, the steep and deep, brush etc. I've found that tree stands help me in this area... BTW i have handgun hunted in the battle ground unit an i thought it was awsome for the close in, lot quieter in the deep woods! Stack'em like cord wood! :P
-
I sure as hell ain't altering the way I hunt anymore!! Screw u guys who say I should change my way. I've changed enough sh t!! :mor:  I bust my ass to find places to hunt an ain't going to have you specialt or anyone else tell me to go more out of my way, to hell with ya guys who think we should more alter are ways!!!! Let's string up the law breakers!! Things can be changed, but why always tell the good guys to change more to the bad guys!! I want to hear some one explain it to me, come on get a clue!!!!!!!! :twocents:
-
I agree with you Snowman. If the area is gated and says "No motorized vehicles" then anyone caught on a motorized vehicle in the area should be strung up.
I hunted the Teanaway area a couple years ago and got a buck a mile or so back behind a gate in an area that had signs saying no motorized vehicles. We saw trucks, ATV's, and motorcylces driving around on the logging roads in there. They had been driving around the gate. At the gate were about a dozen other vehicles where guys were walking in. Can you believe the balls the law breakers have when there are that many people walking in and they just drive around.... :bash:
Anyway, when we got back to the truck and were leaving it was nice to see the warden writing a guy up that had driven around the gate. So the warden over there does write people up for it.
-
I believe they do curly. It's irratating, but what's more iratating is the guys here saying we should go more out of are way!! Just one question I got are these idiots the ones going around the gate in their trucks or their atvs, cause I'm just not getting why I and we should be put out by lawbreakers!!!! There is no arguements READ the title of this thread and I can complain here and to the wardens and to fellow hunters who share the same opinion on sheer true facts!! Free speech!! :pee: on the lawbreakers!!
-
A friend and I were out and a pickup came blazing by into a non motorized vehicle area, driving right around the gate, I called the police, gave them their plate number, descriptions, and told them they were shooting off the back of their pickup. I was there an hour and no one showed. When we left we decided to take a very large rock and put it in their way on the trail out. Never did hear anything about it.
-
Ponder this....
It is Legal (at least in the Naches ranger dist) to ride an atv off road in the NF (as long as no permanent damge is done to natural terrain). So if you have a road that is closed to motorised vehicles, and a person is riding off road . Is he breaking any law?
No, he is with in the law.
I know this statement is going to piss some people off.
I do believe ATV's have there place with with some people and places, and would report someone that is breaking the law, as long as there is a law that is being broken. If i am in an area that i am unsure of, i would take down the information and report it, to see if a law has been broken.
More ATV use is to come weather you like it or not, and it is the ass hats that screw it up, and give us "Lawful" users a bad name.
-
I caught a guy on a quad in a non motorized area. He told me it was ok. I said good give me your wild ID # so that I could call it in. He wouldn't give it to me. I told him that if I found his quad unattended it would never be ridden off the mountain again. He asked me if I was threatening him and I said yes I am, call the sheriff. He rode off. I hate quads and dirt bikes. I think it should be illegal to hunt off them.
-
Snowman wow i wasn't meaning to piss you off but i can if you want.. :dunno: I'm just like everyone else on this thread... I've had my hunting screwed up by some jack ass.... I don't even own an ATV... everyone likes to hate on each other, why? We all share a very special pastime, even if the details are slightly different... Some times WE (including me) can get so piss off about a subject all we do is rant. If that's what you want to do OK i understand. I want you and everyone else to have great experiences in the field, if your on an ATV or hat them... All i was trying to do is call us to action! What can we do? I've heard call in the LP# or other info and that's it. U got another idea? How about sharing? I sure as hell don't know it all and don't pretend to... We should all spend a little more time around the :fire.: hoisting a few telling stories and lies. :party1:
-
I'm not really pissed more iratated than anything!! The problem I see is they are breaking the law more an more. If they are legal hey no prob. I hike an hunt miles back in all the time, but why should I always have too. My deal is lets make the punishment tougher like bigger fines!! The thing is they win because us as hunters can't come together an say enough is enough. We don't put enough pressure on these guys as hunters, we either call it in or turn an walk away. Plus we all post complaints here an share in others complaints that we agree with. Hell yeah lets sit around a fire and :brew: Tell stories and come up with ideas to get these lawbreakers!!
-
Nothing worse than people riding ORV where it aint legal and interrupting your hunt. Disrespectful, rude and degrading to the sport if they are riding places illegally.. If they are in a legal area then I don't have a problem with it. People are generally going forward with hunting plans as if others are going to obey the law. So when they hike in and see people breaking the law I understand their concerns 100%. I'd take their pictures and turn them in if I could.
