Title: Any tips for a newbie hunting late modern season?
Post by: Redstar on November 09, 2009, 08:58:06 AM
I'm on the west side, attempting to harvest a blacktail... I have the time off work and plan to hunt all 4 days, Nov 19-22.

I've been reading everything I can about deer hunting, but I realize reading can only get me so far. I hunted as much as work would allow me too during general season. I didn’t get anything, but I did find a few scrapes and even followed a buck around trying to get a shot. So far he's been much smarter than me though.

From what I've read, the rut will be started. How can I best use this to my advantage? Scents? Calls? What seems to work best for you guys?

And since this is my first year hunting deer, any other tips/advice on the late season hunt would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

I'm a first year hunter also but I've gotten lots of good advice, when your stalking a buck circle up above it because they tend to turn around and watch there back trail so if you go up around it you should have a good chance of getting it. As far as late buck goes all I've heard is find a good spot deer frequent and lay down some crushed apples and doe estrus  :dunno:. Other then that i got no idea lol I've been hunting deer/elk mod seasons have yet to see either lol.
