Title: Wishing I had traps and knowledge.
Post by: Kain on November 09, 2009, 10:43:11 AM
Found what I think is real nice trapping area.  About a mile of this same kind of marsh with trails and slides running all through it.  Didn't see any fresh beaver cutting though.  It is also on Weyerhauser land so I wont have access this winter.

Didnt see any cat sign.  The elk and deer really like the areas though.  I was looking for bears and didnt see any of those either.   :dunno:

Looks like there's beaver in that system but just passing through the area.  The dam has bean worked on, but just kind of pieced together by the looks of it.  That is usually the sign of a "loaner", a beaver that's lost it's mate.  They tend to kind of wander around and don't get real serious about cutting a bunch of trees down of maintaining a dam.  There has been good activity there in the past, looks like last year or the year before though. :twocents:  They either moved on or where moved on....

Good sets there for coon, mink, otter, possibly rats - if you could use legholds :bash: :bash: :bash:

There is something in there.  There is a lot of trails and channels through the grass and the mud slides in and out of the water are freshly used.  The beaver cutting I saw were over a year old though.  Ambitious little buggers, some of the trees they were cutting were pretty large.  No poo or freshly strip sticks.  I think you guys are right, either got trapped out, moved on, or were eaten but no beaver there now.  I didnt spend a lot of time there and wont have access to trap it anyways.  I just thought it looked good and got me dreaming about my fantasy life as a mountain man.  :chuckle: Just born in the wrong era.   :dunno:  :chuckle:
