there's mention made in another thread about a population of Dall's in this state...in all the time i've wasted on this board and others i have never heard mention of this...ever.
anybody?
-
None. maybe some donestics that look similiar.....
-
I know that up in the San Juans on Speiden Island there are some imported type of sheep, not sure what kind and probably not what you are talking about but I thought it was kind of interesting when I saw them.

There was no typo on the Dall sheep. There is a small Dall sheep herd and they acknowledged that. He did exactly reply, "They will get eaten."
:dunno:
-
I bet if they were here they would live in the north end of the pasayten... :dunno:
-
i sure didn't think so, but people talk about the chupacabra and sasquatch all the time too, and i've never seen them either.
:dunno:
8)

The nearest one is like 1000 miles away in northern BC. It would be cool if we had them in the alpine lakes wilderness but no way they would put them here.
-
noway
-
I just (very briefly) searched around for some reference to it and I couldn't find anything. Not sure who concocted that info...seems weird.
-
NO!!!!!! :)
-
Jack...Thats because anyone who see's the chupachabra get eaten. I though you knew that :P
Oh and I can email someone some dall pics from the pasayten near upper cathedral lake if they shoot me a PM

Why not just post em?
-
i cant figure out how

Hell who knows, the F&G may not know for sure. Some of the animals transplanted years ago, the F&G doesn't even have any record of, at least not in Montana. 4-5 years ago my Father and I saw some Mtn Goats in an area that has never been known to have goats, my great grandparents homesteaded there in the late 1800's, so we've been around the area for a while and my Dad was an outfitter there for 20 years. Researching my Grandfathers journals when he was a F&G man revealed they had transplanted 10 goats to that area just after world war II. We called the F&G and they had no record of it.

This is about as ridiculous as a sasquatch thread... :chuckle:
or a "i could kick a wolf's ass" thread?
-
You guys are fools there are some sheep in the Pasayten that the game dept planted.
They were a thrown in on a trade with Alaska in 1973.. we gave them some Roosevelt elk and they gave us some Polar Bears for the zoo. The sheep were like a player to be named later. They have been in the Pasayten ever since.
-
it's a conspiracy, i heard they made their own way here from canada.
:dunno:
-
It's a vast right wing conspiracy. Blame W.
-
Found a herd of them....
-
These ones were hanging out in Black Diamond... :chuckle:

there legit pics, i recognize the backround in the first pic

I dont know man, Ive spent a TON of time hiking all over the Pasayten. And Ive never seen one. But I guess its a lot of land, maybe they could be there :dunno:

There are only 5-6 and they hide really well.

the herd in black diamond or the one in the pasayten?

Pasayten. The ones in BD are tame. Might be domestics.

I just got a PM about Dalls in the pasayten... there are more than I though. WOW.

I saw a little doll dressed like a sheep once in washington .
:yeah: :rockin:
-
WOW, this is hilarious!
-
ummm didnt you guys know about the bunch down in the Klickitat?????? :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Huntbear, those are not true dalls down in the Klickitat. They are new strain of sheep called bench rams; a hybrid cross between California Bighorns and Dall Sheep. Boone & Crockett called for an emergency meeting to try and determine the geographical boundary for this new strain. I heard the B & C minimum for all-time was 175 and 170 for the awards book. Looks like the N American slam of 28 critters just became the N American 29.
-
cool, one more tag I will never get drawn for!!!!!!!!!!! :bash: :bash:
Have they classified those coy-wolves yet????? :chuckle:
-
laugh all you want but the pasayten dalls are legit.

I thought I have heard everything,, :dunno:

Lol, this is kinda funny. Anyone ever hear of an Oregon Dall? I was talking to a lady down their and they said they had them. Never saw a pic of them.

I just had a real nice 3/4 curl Dall ram chasing a blacktail doe in my backyard this evening. What are the odds?! Must be a stray from that Black Diamond band. Hoping to get him on my trailcam this weekend. Unreal!
-
Hey anything is possible :chuckle:
Heres a couple of goats along the hiway, ;)
-

B/C there is no way they would survive there or anywhere else in WA. Too much snow to blow enough browse free and not the correct types of browse.

If they can survive in AK, I don't know why they couldn't survive in WA. But, based on what WDFW-SUX said, there are only 5 or 6 and they've been there since 1973! Those sheep are 36 years old! Either that or they're reproducing at a rate slower than people. :chuckle:
-
I question the browse thing. Mt. goats live in he same areas in Alaska and feed on a lot of the same browse as dalls and do very well Washington. I think that it would be possible for them to make it here and even thrive since our winters are much less severe. With that said, I doubt that we have any (left if we did have some) due to hunting practices of the past and the tribes along with the great demand for such a coveted animal. I think they would have been poached out years ago. Think of the revenue that this state could make if we did have a sustainable population.

Not necessarily true...they only inhabit certain portions of the state of alaska. In fact most mountian ranges in AK have portions of the range where there are sheep and portions that are completely void of sheep. Depends on the snow and browse.
BTW...IMO there are no sheep here. Although the Roosevelt exchange thing does make some sense...I wonder
