Title: Late Western Wa Buck
Post by: Dustin07 on November 12, 2009, 10:17:44 AM
how are the late bucks going to be different than a pre-rut buck in October this year? I've been told the Rut is well under way, and by the 19th we'll be looking at post-rut bucks. How will this effect their behavior? Will they act like Oct Bucks, or like early Nov bucks?

This should get lots of opinions.
Mine:
1) There still will be some does that are not bred or will come into 2nd esturus which will have the bucks looking for them/trailing them.
2) The big difference i know of is that the weather is getting worse and the deer have survival on there minds, which mean they feed more and will be looking for or moving to feed during shooting hours as compared to them holeing up in october and coming out after dark..

I've never hunted the late season, but have unsuccessfully hunted the normal firearm season to many years to admit as i am still empty handed.  :dunno: my father in law is convinced I must give it another go this year as it's finally 'my turn' LOL

so with some does still being in estrus, scents may contribute a postive role I'd imagine?
